Oblong Records

Profile:

UK
Oblong was originally conceived by Lewis Copeland in 1996, whilst owning Soho specialist record store Vinyl Junkies.

Lewis sold the store in late 1998 to focus on Oblong, and realise his long time ambition of running a deep house label.

Matthew 'Bushwacka!' B, long time buddy and customer since 1988, suggested that Lewis should help him with Plank, thus making it easier to get his Oblong ambition off the ground - the rest is 'Healer History'.

Oblong has a tight group of producers on board; Bushwacka! Nathan Coles, 100Hz, Two to the Power, Landmine, Tommi White and new artists, watch this space!

Oblong is the shit, the true tech house sound. Fast and funky, deep and dope. Nowadays the term tech house implies some monotonous post minimal laptop crap produced by some young Italian in his bedroom in Berlin, which is a gross (cultural) misappropriation of what the original sound was as the End crew, Mr C, Layo & Bushwacks et al used to say, "it's house for boys, techno for girls", an outdated description no doubt but apt at the time. Totally underrated and unknown-to-none-but-the-heads label with nuff gems.
