Third album of EL&P, recorded live at Newcastle City Hall on 26th March 1971, and released on LP in gatefold sleeve in December 1971 at a budget price by Island's new HELP series. It reached number 3 in the UK album charts. Vinyl reissues exist on Manticore. CD editions exist on many labels.

I love this album but my original just didn't do it. Too thin and too much crackle and pop. Flip forward 50 years to this release and THIS IS IT!! Stunning sound. Amazing soundstage and imaging. Great but not overpowering bass. Crystal clear highs that do not shrill. An amazing performance captured and an amazing remaster. Dead quiet with one small click on the entire album, but not complaining. If you're a fan then GET IT. Behind Brain Salad Surgery, this is my favorite of theirs.

First heard this in 1971 as an impressionable 14 year old, and became a lifelong Keith Emerson fan. His Hammond organ sound on this record is precisely my idea of how a Hammond should sound. The organ solo in 'Blues Variation' remains one of my all-time favourite rock keyboard solos.
