Funkadelic – Hardcore Jollies

My copy has a sticker from Warner brothers stating it’s a promo anyone else?

This is my 3rd of the AIR studios Funkadelic remastering jobs released by Charly. Ive had some bad luck getting pressing defect free copies of Electric Spanking and One Nation but eventually settled on two good ones. Hardcore Jollies proved tough as well with two nasty pink copies and a bad black one but on the second attempt ive got a good enough black copy.

Hardcore Jollies is a very underrated album and some of there best music is to be found here. Its of consistent high quality throughout the album. I will say all 3 of these Charly reissues sound really good considering the recordings arent audiophile. The music is allowed to shine. The packaging in each instance is very good with the gatefolds being above average quality. Only the thick outer shrinks made of that plastic that degrades MUST be disposed of for a safer alternative.

YMMV and there are clearly inconsistencies in these pressings but if you get good ones you will almost certainly be delighted. If the pressing lottery puts you off the mini-vinyl replica counterpart CD reissues are quite superb (whispers perhaps even better!).

Do these copies kick ass or are they an avoid?

Ive tried two copies of this pink version. One at launch and one just today.... first one seemed good at first, side 1 played well but side two a total rh channel crackle fest. So i returned it and waited a while before getting another copy because the mastering is good enough to warrant a double dip. Tried 2nd copy this evening and its the same bs pressing problems... decent side 1 and side 2 a total noise fest with constant crackle. Yeah they fkkd it up big time. Good news though... same mastering came out on CD and its AMAZING!

Concur that the PVC sleeve should be chucked. Material is harmful to the vinyl. This aside -this is a great package. The jacket is sturdy and wonderfully recreates the Pedro Bell art in bright crisp colors (not a scan). The colored vinyl is flat and heavy, a little noisy but the mastering is spot on - very dynamic and engaging. Musically many highlights - it’s overall a transitional record for Funkadelic which was at that point (1976) moving from the pysche-rock into more r-n-b stylings. The track "If You got funk - You got style" really embodies that transition. The extras are also fun to read. I purchased two others titles from this series - Electric Spanking and One Nation Under a Groove and they are both equally as good. Kudos to Charly records for a great reissue.

I was spinning this LP for the first time just now and the scorching guitar playing on the last track of side 1 definitely sounded like a song called "Hardcore Jollies" to me (as noted on the back cover). Then I flipped the record and side 2 label tells me that the first track is "Hardcore Jollies" and that didn't make sense since it was a chill song. I was a bit confused...

So thank goodness we have great attention to details here at Discogs. Yes, that was a label mis-print and Hardcore Jollies is the guitar workout. Word. I might have gone the rest of my days having those names mixed up if I didn't find this.

This is a nice little record too; funky, awesome bass playing, and some fun songs. Oh nice drumming there on "You Scared The Lovin' Outta Me". I'm loving the bass response on this pressing, very deep and smooth.

Don't be afraid of a mis-print this is a good one!

I have a copy of this with no gatefold sleeve. Can anyone confirm theirs has a gatefold sleeve?
