Likely the very slice of wax that kickstarted the Beasties' career. Jeremy Healy said he sampled from a whitelabel with Beastie Revolution for the British Airways TV ad, which was also shown at cinemas in the US. Currently viewable here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R374eE_b2NY

It hadn't been licensed. The boys happened to see it in a cinema and ended up suing BA for (what at the time was) much cash (some say it was $10k each, others $40k?).

With some of his money, Ad Rock bought an 808, which went on to be the studio drum machine at Chung King and was used for Licensed to Ill as well as LL's Radio & Bigger And Deffer as well as some Run-DMC albums. (BTW- Adam programmed the 808 beats on LL's I Need A Beat and Rock The Bells too).

Beasties MUST have been sampling the Peruvian pixie dust. This is the strangest thing I've heard yet.

Why is the first one on the list worth so much more than the rest? It appears to be more or less identical to all the other 1983 pressings with the exception of the label. And if the matrix etchings are anything to go by most of them are the same lacquers too. Is there a major difference or is this just more weirdo mega collector nonsense?

Cookie Puss was a special ice cream cake you could only get in the New York area.

Cool A-side matrix runout on this pressing - as it secretly helps you spell-out what B.E.A.S.T.I.E. stands for - by leaving out the first letter of each word, one could maybe figure out that it's:
BOYS ENTERING ANARCHISTIC STATES TOWARD INTERNAL EXCELLENCE :) Silly - as they it - but they were still geniuses. I have a made in CD maxi and the European (Made in ) 12" press that came with the picture insert. Does anyone know for sure if those are absolutely legitimate? I believe they are - along with the cassette from . I worked at a shop that sold UK imports and they rarely got stock on or sold anything that was a bootleg - as their distributors wouldn't have ordered it- and they didn't sell boots if they could help it - with a few exceptions.
What a great record - I absolutely flipped when hearing it on Los Angeles radio on KROQ as a teen. It wasn't until a few years later that I heard Beastie Revolution on the flip. And I was then on the hunt for a nice copy of Rock Hard. That was another pain to track down at reasonable price in the early 90s - before the web was a key place to search copies worldwide. And Goldmine, etc. was always collectors prices. One of the employees at X-tra Large in L.A. sold me an extra copy he had. Happy shopping. Classic piece of history. The great thing is they sued British Airways for $40,000 for using Beastie Revolution without their consent - and made some $ to rent a spot to live in and rehearse: 59 Chrystie Street in Chinatown, New York City. - #cookiepuss #carvel
