Onto my second playthrough of this and i will be honest.... this pressing made me sell my much newer AP double 45rpm! This has superb bass and richness. The top end is revealing and fleshy without distortions, just some peaky moments to be expected. The AP was abit cleaner sounding but duller and lacking in life which the stereo version of this record cannot give up any more of because the mono is the liveliest (in a good way) listen of all. I am quite suprised how good this one is for stereo! However i am on record as finding all the AP 75th 2xLPs of Coltranes Atlantic recordings to so far end up inferior to existing Rhino 33 and ORG 45 editions.

I'm very familiar with the Rhino 60th anniversary which is very good. This is considerably better. Coltrane's saxophone virtuosity is so much clearer; much easier to enjoy and appreciate with this 75th 45 RPM (He is literally in the LH corner of my room). "Countdown" is dramatically better than the 60th anniversary which seems a bit jumbled and fatiguing. Bass is also much more nuanced and detailed. Could be the mastering; the 45 RPM; the source tapes used or the pressing plant. (or all of the above). Pressing quality was excellent. -

This is a very good pressing. Trane’s sound is super clear and comes through cutting like a knife. Tatum on drums is also incredibly clear and has a very spacious sound. Flanagan’s piano is a bit quiet at times, and so is PC’s bass. The bass actually sounds pretty thin overall so if you can EQ it out, it’s a good thing for this pressing. -
Um disco cheio de swing e energético, com um jazz de altíssima qualidade em que Coltrane solta tudo o que há de melhor em sua música. Um disco maravilhoso e muito gostoso de ouvir.

Hmmm... abit bass shy, abit lacking in overall clarity. On these fronts the recentish Rhino 2xLP has the edge with a smidge more punch. This one counters with zero distortion rises and an infusion of air and width which is nice. It surprises me how the Rhino Stereo 33 perhaps even is overall preferable, but at the same time the AP75th's of Coltranes Atlantics so far have lost in my shootouts with the ORG editions of Plays the Blues and My Favorite Things sounding notably better (thats Bernie Grundman for ya!).
Ultimately the Rhino Mono 33 of Giant Steps has a clarity and punch the stereo editions cant match but it is VERY monophonic even by monophonic standards! -

This CD has a narrow stereo image compared to other stereo versions of this album. I genuinely thought it was the mono mix at first. However, all of the alternate versions are fully wide LCR mixes. -

Great, great sounding copy. Got one at a reasonable price. So far, the best sounding version I heard on vinyl. Recommended!
