Kenny Burrell – God Bless The Child

An absolute gem recording. If you have a capable system, you'll hear lows that might surprise you for this age. Highly recommended.

Mindblowing reissue of, in my opinion, one the best CTI releases. Exellent soundstage, nice balance between instruments, lovely warm mastering, just great all round. I don’t have a original US copy to compare this with, but for me, this was truly a revelation

Fantastisch record. This is Kenny burrell in a different (orchestral) setting. Nice addition to have. To me one of the best albums of Kenny. Highly recommended. My pressing isn’t all that well. Some tics and pops that don’t seem to disappear even after washing a couple of times. The mastering is gorgeous though. The guitar jumps out of the speakers, drums are crisp and bass full and deep.

This is a terrific sounding CTI release from Kenny Burrell, accompanied by the Don Sebesky Orchestra. Scanning the personnel list, you will find the likes of Billy Cobham, Ray Barretto, Freddie Hubbard, and Ron Carter, a stellar cast.

There's some soul jazz, blues, lush ballads and swingers, something for everyone. Kenny's touching ballad, "A Child is Born", demonstrates his trademark chord melody work. "God Bless the Child" has a fantastic guitar solo. I recognize "Do What You Gotta Do" as Kenny's set closing theme.
I can think of 4 KB records I like better than this, but this one is still superb.

The recording, mixing, and mastering( by Rudy Van Gelder), is top notch. Too much reverb on the trumpet for my liking, but no biggie. Kenny's guitar sounds big and mellow. The drums are 3-dimensional in the sound stage which is a nice touch.

Perfect. You'd be hard pressed to find a better analogue version of this classic in the market place. Mastering, pressing and packaging are all top notch. Beautiful tonal and sonic balance.

The moment that Kenny Burrell had performed with Freddie Hubbard , Ron Carter, Airto Morreira, Hugh Lawson, Hubert Laws, Richard Wyands, Billie Cobham and Ray Barretto, is so successfully captured within this amazing pressing. What a sound quality from this marvelous analogue gem.

This Pure Pleasure pressing sounds excellent: analogue, lush, ambience, natural and detailed . Recommended.

Phenomenal record. One of Kenny's best. His playing is as fluid as always, but I really like the laid back feel of the record as a whole. Most "laid back" jazz guitar records border on smooth jazz and sound generic, especially in the 1970s. Burrell manages to avoid the trappings of generic jazz guitar records by incorporating his groove oriented playing style. Also, his CTI backing band here has a lot to do with the feel and sound of this record. An overlooked and underrated record that deserves to be heard!

The two kenny solo tracks truely make this remastered re-issue worth purchasing. Both of the tracks add on to the groovy yet melancholy nature of this album.
