Billy Strings – Highway Prayers

Previewed this on YouTube without knowing any of BS' music prior. Immediately added it to my list-of-stuff-to-buy.

But when I saw it in a store yesterday I paused ... I knew it was a 2xLP, but $50, really? For some reason I was hoping for $35, maybe $40. Maybe a black vinyl copy is cheaper, but part of the fun is getting an indie store version, right?

Took it home and opened it up. Why bother with an expensive gatefold just to show a picture of an average Chevelle with clever BS lettering on it?

The "risk" pays off. Two 180g discs that play great, are quiet, the recording and production is exactly what records should be. The artwork has subtle raised texture, and the lyrics book styled like a car owner's manual is all awesome.

And that's all BEFORE the great music.

Another great thing, for me, is that Bernie Grundman has a solid crew for mastering and cutting mainstream LPs while he's busy working on the latest Super Famous Artist Reissue.

Sounds excellent and looks incredible too. Great record. The jacket is one of the thicker direct-to-board jackets and is embossed on front and back, as well as the interior gatefold. Jon Brion and Billy killed this.

Holy Cow-Billy has done it again! My copy is gorgeous and the tunes are well thought and masterfully performed by all parties. Billy’s voice continues to grow stronger and sweeter!

mine is centered about right looks cool spinning.may be off just a-bit BUT THE MUSIC MAKES IT OKAY. VER COOL I had that same car in high school SO it was a must have!

The picture disc is awesome plays near perfect and the album art is cool as hell! the tracks are fresh and alive just has a good vibe !

That’s all you need to know sound wise A+. Soundstage and instrument separation are audiophile quality I’m very impressed. I had a few pops (3-4) across the entire album, so basically my particular pressing is near perfect

The mix and mastering on this release is very good. Everything sounds full. The bass is excellent. Fantastic seperation of elements. I hope they go back and give this treatment to his earlier releases.
