Years ahead of its time. Pre-Kraftwerk and Pre-Disco, the A-side is a masterpiece to be treasured always.
-
An amazingly stupid and foolish UK release
for some crazy crazy reason Pye put this out in mono why?
when you can see and note the USA release is stereo! -
intro is a brilliant blueprint for later acid tracks -- but the groove of original Kingsley`s is unbeatable

Hot Butter made it to #9 on Billboards Hot 100 pop chart way back in 1972! I brought this 45 7" single brand new back in 1972 & I still have it! Funny how its under "Synth pop" when in 1972 that term was not even heard of. Very ahead of its time, just as the hit by the UK group, the Tornado's with their early 1960's # 1 "Telestar". Very electronic sounding for that time. -

The catchy and cheerful instrumental "Pop Corn" from 1972 by Hot Butter is a popular Electronic Music and Synthpop. I recommend this vinyl record. The tune "At The Movies" is a relaxing track, but it's also fantastic. But "At The Movies" and some other compositions by Hot Butter were not more famous than "Pop Corn" (The only huge success). -
I believe that the sleeve for this release is not the same as for the other 3 releases.
The reverse side cut-out ( to help grab the disk ) is shorter on this version and has a round shape, instead of the pictured longer cut-out with square edges.
On reverse side it should read at the bottom, below "Licence Mucicor" -> msp 808.19.10 - printed in . I'll provide scans laters. -
There is a completely identical release available for Austria. The only difference is the shown rights society Austro Mechana. Does this release need an extra release form here too?

Edited 18 years agoAccording to my Dad this was the first record i had ever heard because he used to play it loads while my Mum was pregnant with me in in 1973!
A great catchy piece of music that without the genius of Bob Moog would have never exsisted .
This track has also been used for various TV programmes and adverts over the last 30 or so years!
And when I heard the filtered breakbeat version in the mid 90s that Mr.Richard James aka Aphex Twin did on the Joyrex series I knew we grew up listening to the same kinda sounds!!!!
A classic piece of electronic history.

Edited 19 years agoIn 1972, the Moog was hot when Gershon Kingsley came up with this song "Popcorn". It was dancable, catchy, and featured the Moog. Suprizingly (or maybe not, this was the 1970s,) it became a bit of a hit.
