Pat Metheny Group – Travels

Did A-B comparison between this pressing and the 24/96 hi-res stream on qobuz. On my system, this pressing sounds better than the hi-res stream. The vinyl sounds less compressed to me, with more presence and detail. And my used copy is very clean and quiet.

Superlative sounding SACD, be aware this edition is Single Layer only and will not play on a standard CD player. This uses the 2018 DSD remastering.

This is a spectacular album, content and pressing. It is pressed on Quiex vinyl, the darks are very deep, the soundstage and dynamics are very wide. I purchased this album new in 1983, made a cassette copy on the first play and only listened to that for many years, until I purchased the CD sometime in the mid-90s. It was my first encounter with PMG and I was hooked immediately. When I set up my turntable and started getting into vinyl again in the late '00s, it was one of the first albums I listened to, as I vividly how wonderful this album sounded, how well it was recorded and how much I had listened to it over the years, I know practically every note.

So listening now as I do a needle drop, it reminds me once again, that this pretty much sets the standard in my collection for perfection in vinyl. I understand the German ECM pressings are supposedly superb, but I honestly cannot even consider how they could be better than this.

Great live LP, and a great place to start if you're new to Metheny.

Perfect in every sense. My first encounter with Pat Metheny Group. Concert in Ljubljana in 1991 just a few days before the war will always be in my mind as my 6 year old daugher fell asleep round midnight in my lap. Pat is in her veins from this moment :-)

Fabulous, clean recording. Sound detail is great. A wide mix of soft ballads and power tunes.

I was given this record as a present for my twentieth birthday many many years ago when I worked as a kitchen porter in the Olympia Zentrum hotel in Munich. The chamber maids and hotel staff who signed the inner were mostly Yugoslavian, this was before the war destroyed the country. It's one of my most treasured records. My copy of this LP is pressed on translucent brown vinyl. It appears black unless held up to a strong light source.
