Notes

The Return of the Space Cowboy is the second album by British funk/acid jazz band Jamiroquai. The album was released on 17 October 1994 in the United Kingdom under Sony Soho Square and on 9 May 1995 under Work Group in the United States.

Later releases of the album have the first letter of the word "Cowboy" on the front cover incorrectly printed in lower case. The original UK release from 1994 has it printed correctly. Additionally, the first release has a different inlay booklet- - featuring individual photos of Stuart, Wallis, Toby and Derrick. There are no "thank you's" from Derrick in this version. Later releases include a group photo and "thank you's" from Derrick.

Nothing like some good Jazz/funk, this reissue is very cool, great artwork and the pressing is really good as well, nice and quiet with details, sounds great turned up to 11

The bass on this album is phenominal, but what isn't is the treble - as this original vinyl issue has the same issue that plagued the original CD; some kind of filtering that took out a ton of the top end, making it all sound as if it's coming from under a blanket. I think I'm going to have to check out the MOV repress based on the 2013 remaster and see how that is!

This is a very good reissue with very good sound quality, a cool sleeve and a nice marbled design for the vinyl. However I do think there is a lot of extra space on each side that could easily have been filled. Especially side 4, which does have an extra track (Space Cowboy remix) but it is SO short and I don’t get why when there’s so much space left.
Couldn’t they have thrown the Space Clav instrumental in there as well? Or even the extended 12” version for Stillness in Time? Just seems like a waste.
That aside, it’s still a very good reissue of one of the greatest albums British Jazz Funk has to offer, and the best of the Jamiroquai reissues thus far! Worth buying if you’re also a big Jamiroquai fan!

This is a really good pressing, flat with a clear sound, many details and a great bass. The only thing is that you have to play Half The Man a little louder then the rest of the songs. The artwork is very nicely done.

Sounds absolutely amazing. Very dynamic and all instruments step forward, especially Stu's base🤤. The last minute or so of Scam is etheral. I only found some siblance on Space Cowboy but otherwise fine.

Like Lyo7 said, one of the best sounding records in my collection. Much more bass than digital and CD which focuses the attention on the bassist Stuart Zender. Absolutely powerful music and sound. This definitely uses the original tape masters as I can hear a high pitched tone around 16-18khz which isn't present in the reissue or CD.

The extended version of Stillness In Time is an absolute treat!

Every true Jamiroquai fan and audiophile needs this.

One of the best sounding records I have ever heard. This even bests the first pressing of their debut "Emergency On Planet Earth" which already is a beast sonically.

Listen to "Morning Glory" on this pressing sitting in the sweet spot with your eyes closed and you will get what I'm saying.

The 45RPM cutting really makes this an audiophile treat and again shows imho the love of the band for the vinyl format. Similar to EOPE (which had 3) there is extended material here exclusive to only the first pressings, namely "Stillness In Time".

Contrary to EOPE, this release is more spiritual and soulful. While the first pressing of EOPE impresses with its great attack and vivid jams, OG Return of the Space Cowboy puts more emphasis on harmony and timbre, balancing the rhythmic and melodic aspects perfectly. They really were on another level in 1993/1994.

I highly doubt there will ever be a repress that exceeds the quality of this version. Get this while you can, because like EOPE this is unlikely to be repressed with the care that went into this first pressing.
