Deodato* – Prelude

A/B'ing this right now with a very early vintage US pressing. The MOV is VERY close tonally - warmth, detail, and that sense of lush groove, all present and ed for. The sound of this screams CTI almost as loud as an original - except : on the up side, the noise floor is much quieter, the volume a touch lower and the bass a little leaner but better defined (the kick drum is much easier to follow), and there's a touch more dynamics than the CTI. On the down side - the eq feels leaner and a little more "modern" in a way that doesn't necessarily suit the recording. It's a lceaner but slightly less charming insight into the recording. The original US still has more of that sense of warmth and lushness, and remains a subjective favorite despite the higher noise level - but I could live with this MOV pressing as my only release.

I can't confirm Steppewolf's claim that the record lacks bass, but perhaps that's because I have a sufficiently good stereo system.

In reference to variant 1. As with all of the CTI recordings, there is a warmth and density to the recordings, and the digital transfers are clean and tight.

My copy has 1972 CREED TAYLOR INC on the back and on the record.

Anyways, nice groove on this record. Pleasantly surprised to see Billy Cobham plays drums, Ray Barretto plays conga, and Hubert Laws plays flute solo on one tune.

Funky, jazzy, laid back and plenty of niceness up on here.

Favorite song: September 13. It’s nicely reminiscent of what Steely Dan were doing - plenty of session musicians and a sweet jam.

Yet more excellence from MOV and all at a sane price.

My copy lacks much in the way of yellow but is still a gorgeous green marbled look. Importantly this look comes at no detriment to the silence of the playback. This is typical MOV to be fair.

The sound is good but far from a demo disc. As an album its not my favourite CTI recording but it does get under the skin and grow which is always satisfying!!

Not even close from a first US pressing, too bad...

Great sound and super cool embossed cover! I think it embodies the music much more than the original. I decided to keep this one instead. Special and unique.

Just one word is enough to describe this reissue: excellent!

A dust free, flat, excellent sounding reissue. I’m so glad I replaced my older version with this one.
