The record sounds amazing! Sublime mastering job, but the printed resolution on the sleeve does look way too sketchy, not to say horrible. Bummer.

Signed up for a one month subscription to VMP just for this record. I'm so glad that I did. Quality jacket, although, the graphics seem to be a bit blurry? The little pink booklet that forwards the record is a really nice touch. Quiet, flat pressing. Enjoy!

Wow… just wow. What a spectacular sounding press! The quality of this package all around is top-notch.

i got this during VMP’s latest Jazz restock — it’s a 10. it’s not AAA, but it doesn’t even matter. as others have said, it sounds flawless.

Edited 4 years agoThere probably isnt a better way to hear Blossom Dearie.
Its impressive how much bass these old tapes had and that Kevin delivers onto us with this mastering. Overall the soundstage is deep, perhaps even too much so as I feel vocals slightly lack a presence to really step into the room with you, but a simple raise of volume solves that mostly. Drums are still a bit distant in the mix though, a common decision at the time period with vocal jazz.
The pressing is also near flawless for me, with just a few clicks at times but no surface noise in sight or ear.
One aspect that is a bit disappointing however, is the sleeve. Its thick and glossy which is great, but the image itself is clearly not the original negative thats been re scanned, but likely just a CD cover upscaled to LP size as its quite blurry and even cropped to zoom in on Blossoms face more. The booklet is a nice touch at least.
Once again VMP is just short of a home run reissue.
Equipment Used:
Technics SL-1210GR Turntable
Paratrace tipped Nagaoka MP-200 Cartridge
Cyrus 2 Amplifier
System Fidelity SF-3050 Tower Speakers

I have the second/latest pressing (Aug 2020) and it sounds fantastic. I know it's hit or miss with VMP, but this one is a hit.
