Notes
Gatefold jacket with a custom sticker covering the open ends. Records housed in poly sleeves. Comes with a 4 page insert.
Tracks are sequentially listed from 1 to 13.
Pre-order copies from the White Stripes official online store came with a free red and white "swirl button"-design slipmat.
180 gram vinyl mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray from 1" tape reels, "the first time in recording history that a vinyl master was cut in analog straight from a one inch master mix."
Two tracks have different mixes: in track A1 the guitar has an AM radio effect during one of the breakdowns, and another section was edited to be shorter. Track C9 doesn't feature the original spoken sections by Jack and Meg, instead only Jack is heard saying some random lines. Even with these differences, the credits in the artwork are the same as the CD releases, and A1's duration is listed as being 4:14.

This could be my favorite Jack White adjacent album. If not, it’s in the top 5. As stated in other reviews of Jack’s stuff, buying his pressings can be a bit of a crap shoot. When looking into the choices on Icky, to my surprise, I find a Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman cut?! Well holy crap. Immediate purchase! They did not disappoint! Packing is meh, not much to it so my overall score will be pulled down but, I don’t buy vinyl for the packaging. Ok on to what really matters. Huge soundstage, chest thumping bass but with tone and texture intact and all of the raw energy we expect from Jack and Meg. Flawless, dead silent vinyl to boot. Maybe, maybe the UHQR of Elephant sounds better…maybe, but it’s close. This pressing is a must have for any JW fan or a fan of garage, blues rock type shit.

Sound is the bomb. Mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, so sweeeet.
Floor shaking bass. Jack's voice right in your face, biting with his clear vocals.
"Nothing left for me to tell you, oh well oh well oh well"... -
Was absolutely stoked to see this in the White Stripes section at Twist and Shout, i was expecting the regular rerelease until i checked the deadwax. Bought it for less than retail, spun it and was frankly amazed by how fucking good this sounds.

Icky Thump indeed! Want to blow the windows out of your house? Crank this sumbitch to 11. One of the greatest mastering jobs Steve Hoffman has ever done, bar none...

Perfect record. Do not regret spending $32 on this at all. Mastered by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman and it's AAA and pressed at RTI. What else do you need to say. One of the best sounding records in my collection.

Edited 7 years agoAbsolutely fantastic. This is exactly what every modern record release should strive to be. Thoughtfully packaged dynamic vibrant and wide ranging analog sound pressed with care upon flawless, sturdy, quiet black vinyl. Clean out of the sleeve and ready to play. Impressive. Instantly became a favorite in my collection. A bargain at $25.

A great record on vinyl. My only complaint is, and I can't believe I'm saying this; the standard version of Rag and Bone is far far far better than the one on the vinyl. It has way more character with the spoken sections.
