I have 3 editions. OG 1980 GB pressing, Back to black 2008 and unfortunately I bought the 2019 remaster because I wanted to have a new copy without crackles and noise. I like this album. Ranking 2019 compressed, no dynamics, cut drum cymbals. Waste of money. 2008 almost approx. 90% OG. Weaker drum cymbals but not much. Overall ok. I wonder how it is. We pay a lot of money for worse and worse reissues. Compressed, no dynamics. They are not even close to OG (if someone has them and can compare). The same with Reggatta de Blanc. I have 1977, 2008 and 2019. The same.It ss NOT OK!!!

Not a good press at all.... the sound is totally off and totally dead. Honestly its like ive got a canal blockage in both ears. The press itself is warped and slightly audibly off centre to boot.
I will be promptly returning it -

Edited one year agoThis release is utter hot rubbish--compared to my original copy from decades ago, the dbx Nautilus pressing, and the US SACD, the highs are slurred and distorted, the tonal balance is harsh, and the vinyl has both small warpage and numerous clicks and pops. This, on a new, sealed copy. Should have known from the "made in Poland" sticker on the back it would be a terrible pressing, and it was. Universal should be ashamed (but they won't be). I've asked the seller to take it back. I guess Abbey Rd. mastering isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'll wait for a competent studio to master this one.

I gave up looking for an original, and took a chance on this 2019 reissue. In short, it is a stunning release, excellent pressing and wonderfully balanced. The kick drum just thumps, and as expected, Sting's bass is clear and forward. This final is dead silent between songs. Highly recommended.

My first real album (and it’s still great). The sound is great. There is a nice balance between the rhythm section and the vocals. The cover is a lot of fun with all the photos...a first class reissue.

Edited 4 years agoDid anyone else find the channels out of balance on this LP reissue? The stereo image on my copy from the "Studio Recordings" box set sounds weighted to the left channel by several decibels... Compared it to an original pressing and it seems like something is off with the 2019 LP.

Edited one year agoIt sounds okay but not amazing. When I got this copy about 4 years ago I thought I was great. Yesterday I picked up a clean OG pressing at my local record shop and I was shocked at the deference in sound quality. Although this pressing has a full and rich sound. The OG pressing has a much more dynamic sound. More warm, rich, wide and expansive. This pressing is a little over compressed and flat sounding. The bass is a little flabby and bloated as well.

Not a bad sounding reissue by any means but the original does have the slight sound advantage. The drums and bass on this reissue sound grand, super punchy, well defined and realistic but the drums and bass on an original US version sound just as good. Plus the balance is a lot better on an original version without the drums and bass being so vaulted high up in the mix. Vocals less defined on this reissue and can sound thin at times. Overall better definition on the original recording. This reissue doesn’t sound bad but after hearing how good the original was recorded and mastered there’s really no point for this reissue in my eyes. Also, my NM original cost less than this reissue!
