This sounds muddy, compressed and flat. No bass, no real highs. I rather listen to this album via streaming.

Eh. A disappointing. I have wanted this on vinyl forever. With the reissue I was finally able to buy it. I mean, it’s fine if you don’t care very much and maybe to the untrained ear it sounds “fine”. There’s no depth, it sounds incredibly hollow and muddy. That bass just isn’t there. It immediately reminded me of the Tears for Fears Songs From the Big Chair remaster anniversary release. Compared to my 1985 pressing that isn’t even 180 and scratched all to holy get out that I got for 50 cents at a thrift store, it sounds like it was mixed in a PVC pipe (and the beat ass ‘85 version sounds like God descending down from the heavens). That’s how this feels. It’s incredibly flat and underwhelming.
I don’t know what happened to the master but this seems like a game of telephone from the master. Honestly sounds like it was pressed from a Napster .
Otherwise the vinyl is pretty. Though, there is a weird black dot on side A that looks like a beauty mark. Randomly.
If it even sounded remotely as dynamic as Savage we’d be fine. But not even close.
Guess I’m still going to seek out the original pressing. Dammit. -
My pressing is clean, but I have to disagree with the other review saying this is a good remaster. It is probably one of the most compressed sounding LP's that I own. I was really excited to get this on vinyl since it is probably overall my favorite of his, so it was a big disappointment. I have listened to it with a shibata and microlinear stylus, neither sound good. The CD has good sound quality, so I would recommend sticking with that.

My copy sounds great. One LP label has red text and the other has blue and you would think it's obvious to make one LP red and one blue but.... major labels like cutting corners. At least it sounds good. Most bigger label vinyl I have bought is amazingly bad. This sounds like at least they mastered it for vinyl and listened to the test pressings for once. This is probably the best Numan album for NIN fans. A lot of it sounds like they stole Trent's personal synths and samples. I don't say that as an insult, I personally like it better than NIN. To me, the songs that were originally on Exile sound vastly improved here. I want to like Exile but it all sounds just muddy and unfinished to me. The Pure tracks are great but I also really like Pure. I might like them equally. I'm mostly an old school 78-81 Numan guy but I think the old songs redone more goth / industrial on this album work really well and I'd rather see "an old guy" playing his old songs with a new twist or style than going through the motions like Chubby Checker playing The Twist for 50 fucking years. Just one thing that bugs me here.... look out for the random rap guy saying "send black angels fo' ya". It's really embarrassing and doesn't fit at all. Bad idea.

My copy arrived with some sort of gunk in two large spots on side 1 of disc 2. Three wet cleanings and it's still has traces of it. Nothing in the inner sleeve, so I'm assuming some sort of grease got on it in the factory. Shoddy QA.
