Album most certainly needs a LP 12" release. All tracks are quality, with notable tunes IMO being Bicom, Television Tower and the ever so glitchy vocals of Alpenrausch.

Monolake had already realized their vision for rainy urban techno with Gravity, but the second of their 2001 dyad is a necessary expansion on this sound. Monolake has crafted meticulously music that straddles laid-back IDM and a dense exploration of synthetic textures. Music that seems to imitate rustling glass objects or dripping ice is blended seamlessly with subtle motifs and harmonies, and the result is the opposite of what people consider "cold and impersonal" electronica. (footnote: Techno doesn't have to be melodic, but it's really great when it is. That's a good amount of the material here.) My personal favorites are "Cut" and "Indigo", the latter of which basically summarizes everything I like about this record. It's magical and deserves all the praise it gets.

Edited 18 years ago"Cinemascope" was my first experience with the Monolake duo and due to that probably remains my favourite album. Music is multi-layered, mathematically constructed, very suggestive and highly atmospheric. Following the title, it's like a soundtrack from a complex digital process of information travelling through channels. If Kraftwerk were humanoid robots, then these guys must be like an upraged version of Kubrick's HAL-9000. Mindblowing record - 5/5.

monolake blends minimal glitch with warm dub-like synths to create pulsing soundscapes that are at once captivating and danceable. This release realizes it more fully then "Interstate" does. Good things are sure to come from these guys. Stay Tuned.
