Edited 4 years agoThis is my favourite Cher album of all time, and possibly one of my favourite albums of all time. I see It’s A Man’s World like Sgt Pepper (Mono and Stereo.) Both versions are almost entirely different albums.
Growing up I heard the US version and it was constantly played during my childhood. Angels Running (US) just screams 90’s.
Yes the UK is the original as Cher intended, and it had it’s charms. The one exclusive song that’s really worth it Is Shape Of Things To Come. The Original One By One is slightly better, as for the rest, the American versions are an improvement. Like someone else said, some songs sound like demos, like What About The Moonlight on the UK disc.
The American version is put together very nicely in of track list (artwork as well....) The American mixes have more energy by far. I never liked the Original Angels running, the Piano version on the American disc is superior. It’s all a matter of preference. Both versions give a different vibe and like I said, they are like two different albums. -
I am forever perplexed that anyone prefers the original UK/EU album — four of the songs sounded like demos before being remixed by Sam Ward. The US mixes by Sam Ward with the new background vocals really brought those four tracks to life.
The one I do NOT like is the remixed version of ANGELS RUNNING — that really is better on the original UK release. The US remix by Daniel Abraham rips out the big guitar melody and replaces it with ... wait for it ... an organ playing the same one note on the beat for several bars. Errr ... what? WHY?
I still listen to the US version of this album regularly. I can be heard singing the new mix backing parts in my shower quite often! :-)
While everyone loves the "big gay version" of ONE BY ONE (mixed by Junior Vasquez), the original UK/EU album version sounds like a foggy Bon Jovi demo ... *yuck*. I love the US single mix with Melle Mel — it wasn't exactly cool or relevant at the time but it's groovy & hilarious.
Trivia: The version of One By One in the US video is the radio version that is only available on the One By One US promo. It's like the US "R&B" album version (no rap) but sped up just enough to make it sound oddly off-beat. Sneaker-in-the-dryer effect. Not good. It's funny how just a few BPMs makes it sound SO odd and off. Thankfully, it barely saw any play anywhere and anyone who bothered opted for the Junior Vasquez Remix Edit (video & radio) in the US.
Final comment: The US album version of PARADISE IS HERE is just fantastic! I love it. Trumps the original, the US single remix, etc — although I do like the very sparse & spacy Eurodance Mix on the US single.
