What an absolutely fantastic sounding piece of vinyl. I have a UK A3/B3, 30th, 50th, and a 2016 Grundman. All of these are terrific presses but this Japanese 1st easily tops them. The A3/B3 is close, but to my ear, this Japanese 1st is slightly better. Hot press. Crisp and clear mids to highs. Beefy low end. Excellence!

Compared it to my 2nd UK A3/B2 issue and it falls short in comparison with the UK. The UK has much more bottom end and punch. The Japanese is by no means bad, it's really clear in highs, smooth generally, but more polite than the UK. Another Japanese advantage is silent vinyl.

its a great japan first pressing . comparing this with my EMS-80324 ( Japan 3rd reissue ) , the first copy has more dynamic and warm sound . i got mine without the obi and insert but at a good price . So far i dont have the 1st uk copy so i cant say much but im satisfied with the japan press .

Just got a NM copy and it absolutely blows away my 79 MoFi, 75 Wally US, and for sure 2016 reissue. I had no idea this is what this album was supposed to sound like. I've never heard an early UK to compare it to, but I can't imagine it sounding any better. This is on par with the best sounding albums in my collection, if not the best. Dead silent backgrounds, which is something the UKs apparently don't have.
Mine came with all the posters and booklet but is missing the OBI. If anyone has one, I'd buy it to complete mine. -
A truly magnificent album. A robust record full of power, boost and character. All songs are magnificently mastered. Nick Mason sounds truly AMAZING. Even the conversations throughout the music (I was really drunk at the time etc) sounds so much clearer than the 2016 remix. NEVER heard DSOTM like this before. A true keeper in the collection!

Edited one year agoJust want to echo all the positive comments : this Japan pressing is OUTSTANDING ! And i used to own many different versions . UK A-3 B-3 , MFSL, 30th Ann. ,... i'm not a fan of Japan pressings , but to give credit where credit is due: this one is GREAT ! This pressing has the presence, the richness, the size and the energy you always wanted to hear on Dark Side ! The clarity and depth and the power and warmth of the audio is stunning! It is well documented that the Japanese pressings match up to the UK first pressings in of sonic quality.

My dead wax matrix is early “73” but my gatefold OBI is 2200 yen which is supposed to be late “73”. I’ve also read that the 2000 yen and the 2200 yen OBI pressings are both considered first pressings.? Opinions? I’m aware of the “Mfg. By Toshiba Musical Industries, Ltd” situation as well.

By far the best sounding vinyl in my whole collection!!! Wow! I mean Side A is amazing but Side B is just unreal!!! It blew me away completely! I read on many forums that this Odeon/Emi Japanese pressing is the best along with the first uk pressing and my goodness how right this is! Unbelievable sonic experience, just another level particularly Side B! You can clearly see the difference with other pressings from the opening notes till final notes! There is no dark side of the moon matter of fact it’s all dark 😉

This pressing is ok at best. BTW do not buy from mondo_diggers_club. His pressings are d mint and are scratched trash. Buyers beware.
