This CD has inverted audio polarity, and you haven't heard it until you've heard it with the right polarity. Dan's recording engineer, Roger Nichols, recorded and mixed it in analog because I gather that he wasn't a fan of digital mixers at the time, and converted the mixer's output directly to digital using Apogee AD-1000's (20 bit ADC's), and then to CD-standard with an Apogee UV-22. So when I first heard it (with the wrong polarity), I was disappointed. But with the right polarity, it is one of the most detailed CD's I've ever heard.
I hated CD's until about 2016, when I learned that there had been a revolution in CD-playback (Absolute Sound reviewer Robert Harley's description), by eliminating pre-ringing from the digital interpolation filters in DAC-chips. This changed me from a CD-hater to a CD-lover. So now the main problem with CD's is getting the polarity right.
