This is a secondary market awesome find. To find this is one thing, to find it when I was looking for near mint copy of Pink's The Wall is on another level 21 years after it's release.
They had it tagged for 99.00 dollars, but because of mostly outer cover condition, I talked them down to 75.00. Top seam split, bent bottom corner and numerous divats to front side cover. I would say VG or VG minus grade.
The LP is flawless except for a quarter inch audible scratch to opening track, side 1. Which is the quiet lead in and heart beat to Speak To Me. I'm not sure, how someone could not take care of a 21st century pressing, certainly not an audiophile owner.
As many have said, this blows away all but the 1st Press UK. However finding one of those will cost you Tesla car payment. I also have a 79 Netherlands which is slightly better to the 2016 I own. As well as a 50th anniversary clear disc 2 LP version from last year. I am thrilled to have found this gem. It actually set in the bin 3 days before I bought it. So I can scratch another grail record off my list. -
geez louise...does this sound amazing... sometimes i wonder if people are just following the crowd at chow time with the positive comments but not this time .... it really is a great pressing... i was lucky to get one at best buy back then... i was going to get The Wall but a guy swooped in and grabbed it before i got to the "P" section 😄 i was still in the B - D area... of course i'm glad it all happened... bastard...
fluance 82 ... at vm95ml... sony str something -
Just bought today and the clarity, soundstage and dynamics are amazing. My go to pressing before this is the Aussie quad which is fantastic. The quad mix of Us and Them is unbelievable with the best 3D soundstage I have heard on any vinyl…but it lacks the warm thick bass of Breathe and Time that the 30th has.

The holy grail. Best sounding pressing IMO. I had the 2016 version and many other pressings from the 70's (mostly EU) and none of them come even close to this.
The only issue it that on some parts of "Brain Damage" female voices sound overly bright, but it's a small issues considering that the rest is just perfection! -
I bought two copies and both came with an extreme amount of dust in them. I dont know if it has anything to do with the inner sleeve, but it definitely wasn’t the seller if it happened twice. Cleaned mine, and while still not clean, it’s certainly more listenable. According to Kevin, he was going to clean something up when cutting this but Doug advised him not to and to leave the tape as it was. Kind of a curse just because after hearing many Kevin Gray cuts, this could’ve been the best sounding pressing this album would have ever had. However, even without any adjustments, this is still up there as one of the best pressings to get. Have never heard a UK pressing, but the 30th is still better than everything else I’ve ever heard. Damn Gilmour’s guitar in “Time” becomes mesmerizing on this pressing
UPDATE: finally found one in the wild and got myself that super clean copy, what a beautiful cutting this is -
I own the 30th Anniversary edition and the 2016 remastered from analog tapes release. Both are freshly opened. I find the 30th Anniversary copy ever so slightly more natural and spacious. The newer remaster is fine in a budgetary pinch, but it is a bit more flat and only a little better than a compact disc, soundstage-wise.

Edited 2 years agoI cleaned mine with a VPI three times and after that not working on an ultrasonic twice before I got the record to where I wanted it to sound. It's a great master when it can be played properly, best LP I have heard this album on (Original US and 70s US reissue). Prior to the cleaning it was littered with surface noise. Don't give up hope if you copy has noise, it may just need some good TLC.

Wonderful and dynamic! This is the best version I own. I Have the standard MFSL and an old American 1973. This one is the best of the three.
