An excellent record that you can hardly tire of listening to. Excellent components and unique solos (see Anthony Williams solo in Refuge). An armenia that leaves you speechless ...

Edited 9 years agoWhat an album. It's the type of platter I can just keep turning over again and again. Andrew Hill and his incredible sidemen have created a painting I just don't get sick of looking at. Abstract and wandering, while still grounded in the earth. Avant and free, but soft and beautiful.
Though everyone shines, Dolphy really has some revelatory highlights in here.
And while each song is magnificent, "Spectrum" is quite the piece to be reckoned with. Forward-thinking, emotive, intriguing and surprising. A stunning, standout cut from the Blue Note catalogue.
