Edited one year agoOk, I’m spinning the mono copy now. First off, the inner gatefold has a lot of cool pictures and information regarding the recording and early pressings of this album. The labels look like cheap scans/photo copies, but considering the “historic” lens this is being presented in I’ll give it a (though the labels do look like crap). The splatters look cool as hell, not sure what else to say on that. Nearly impossible to spot defects but they do look great.
Now the sound. It beats the hell out of my old stereo UK first pressing (Radar, uses the crappy futzed with stereo tapes of the late 70s), but it doesn’t beat the stereo needle drop from Profstoned. This is probably the best sounding officially released vinyl of this album you’re going to find past the originals. There is a lot of sibilance on the vocals, and some less than pleasant distortion here and there. Sound quality varies from track to track, and I’m not totally sure how much is down to a) the recording, b) the LP they sourced this needledrop from, or c) my cartridge/needle…or some combo of the 3.
This is very crankable.. if you feel like it needs more treble/clarity, just turn the volume up. The bass is chest thumping.. just beware of some of the vocal sibilance.
With my pressing of the mono, there are defects. There’s a persistent rubbing sound audible between tracks. There’s some low level repeating knocking beginning side B. And generally a good amount of ticks and surface noise. I can live with it, but beware.
I’ll eventually compare the stereo to my old Radar copy, and will also spin this on a different table with a lower output needle to see how much, if any, the sibilance clears up.
If you can get this for the price of 1 LP like I did, and you really want it on vinyl, get it. Otherwise the Profstoned stereo needle drop is breathtaking. -
ive seen copies of this with the same white hype sticker where the vinyl is a murky clear with red blob. There doesnt seem to be a submission for it though.

Edited 2 years agoThe mono disc sounds phenomenal (have not spun the stereo yet) the whole package looks and feels great. The pressing is clean and clear despite the cosmic acid tracer coloring , which pops in motion for good measure. The people who produced this give a shit.
My only complaint is I would have gladly paid less to buy just the mono (or the same price for a backup copy of the mono lol) -
Great pressing. Smart to give both stereo and mono mixes/track list. Sounds super clear and the splatter pressing looks and feels great! Love the gatefold and bag packaging (over shrink wrap) as well. “Slip Inside This House” is one groovy song.

Stunning sounds coming from the Mono side of things (my main focus in buying this). No surface noise, etc. on my copy. This is a beautiful set and I am more than satisfied with the quality (sound and otherwise)

Mine has some unfortunate snaps and pops throughout the mono disk. Also some of the white chips from the splatter must have gotten on top of the label as they were pressed into it. That’s definitely a new one! Still, happy to have this pressing without needing to decide between stereo and mono. I did find it interesting that this came with one printed inner and a pre-poly lined inner. While its sister pressing had two unlined inners.

Some very light surface noise on each of the discs, but otherwise a stellar release. Very crankable.

Being that this is a Charly reissue, is this just the same as this issue (https://discogs.sitiodesbloquea.com/release/4777485-13th-Floor-Elevators-Easter-Everywhere), but with colored vinyl and a bonus track? The marketing packet sent to my local record store says the stereo side "is different to the alternative stereo version used on the Sign Of The Three Eyed Men boxset." Am I safe in assuming that Charly hasn't stumbled upon some long-lost stereo masters in the past eight years?

Sounds awesome, seems a little different from the other Charly reissues (can’t hear the needledrop between tracks on this mono LP). I wish there was some more detailed info on these, I’m happy either way.
