My copy actually sounds really amazing. Yes, there is some slight sibilance, but it rather seems like a deliberate production choice as part of the very electronic sound of this album.
All in all I‘m very impressed by this pressing. It sounds full, dynamic, heavy bass. The mixing also shows off the beautiful instrumentation way better than the cd or the digital version imo. -
So much sibillance on disc two. I'm also not a big fan of making disc two a different rpm when they could make the two run on the same speed.
-
Edited 2 months agoNo issues to report on my copy, both discs sound great ! Having two different speeds is a weird choice and “Nothing Fails” sounds a bit thin and sibilant tho. Recommend getting this 2012 reissue instead of the 2020 180 g reissue as it seems that one sounds horrendous.

Edited 10 months agoThe little acoustic and electronic flourishes of Mirwais' production really shine on this. Bass punch with treble clarity. The only issue is slight sibilance which I believe was present on the original recording but is highlighted here ('Nothing Fails' is particularly bad).
-
Edited one year agoThe quality of the disc is excellent! What a good surprise! Madonna's vocals are incredible and different from anything she's ever done! The only bizarre thing is that disc two is at 45rpm. I really didn't understand...

Edited one year agoI have gotta point out the fact this album is approx. 50 min and splitting it into 2 records makes it annoying to the listener that needs to flip the record every 3 songs. Maybe a 4-4-3 combination and an etched side would have been better, or a side of demos/b-sides etc. The packaging is sturdy with a nice gatefold, but i'd appreciate a lyric sheet or bonuses like a review of the album and the story behind it by Madonna or the producer.
The pressing is good, no pops or cracks, but there is noticeable sibilance throughout the record that could have been originated from the microphones used in the production, overall much better than the CD, sounds very punchy.
As for the songs, this ain't a pop record but it sounds so different and interesting and every time I listen, I notice new elements i haven't noticed before. There are "conventional" pop songs like "American Life", "Hollywood" and "Love Profusion" which of course are my favs off this album. A hidden gem is heartfelt "Mother and Father" but I'd wish Madonna's vocals weren't pitched up. -
Sounds absolutely beautiful on my turntable. I don't care about the 45 RPM speed of the second record.
One of her best albums to date that still sounds fresh in 2023. Very underrated. -
The 2012 vinyl version is a nice reissue with beautifull sound on every side. It could be annoying that the speed is different on side C and D but I really don't care.. it only needs a little attention when you put it on.
Interesting that I just started to dig Madonna after 33 years. I never thought that I will like any song from her beside Frozen and a coulple others but the fact is that I just started to like this 20 year old album. The production of the whole stuff is amazing, and I just find it quiete funny that all the stupid album rankings put this record to one of the last places in Madonna's collection.
Well... analise this boys and girls, this album is one of her best work. Maybe the bravest, most honest thing she ever did. I am happy that I found it for myself and I gues she will never be on the same shelf for me like my favourite singers and songwriters but I really appriciate this album. No words can describe how much strength is in the last song especially when you are in the age and time of having or bulding your family. However, the song Mother and Father is much better in acoustic version. That is the only thing I miss from this release. -
