Edited one month agoUnbelievable sounding stereo mix by Rudy. I love this and prefer it over the mono. Ray’s latin-feel congas really add that “live in the room with the band” feel to it. Get yourself an original stereo copy if you have the chance!

Edited one year agoThat's one of the best sounding records in my collection! It beats most modern so-called audiophile releases by far! It's unbelievable what RVG has conjured up here! I'm lucky to own a near mint first pressing of this jazz gem - feels like sitting in Rudy's studio! So much space and air around every performer and a great spatial depth. Every instrument is very present.
Also the music is outstanding, bluesy and soulful. Music for the late night listening.
With no doubt, this is one of the best jazz recordings ever, not only in the BN catalog. -
It's the reason why I sold that crappy copy of 75th anniversary issue. I am dang happy with my ORG. copy. This is it!

Edited 3 years agoA good as it gets for "Heart and Soul" straight forward jazz...Kenny Burrell makes the guitar come alive and he is backed by the best...Major Holley Jr. on bass, Ray Barretto on the congas, and Bill English working the skins...And a key ingredient to the whole LP is tenor sax player Stanley Turrentine...Oh my, this is a treasure trove of musical joy...From track one to the final note you will be enthralled by the talent of this group...FIVE of the SEVEN tracks are original tunes penned by Burrell..."Wavy Gravy" and "Chitlins Con Carne" and super nice...Jazz critic and writer Leonard Feather penned the liner notes...So put it on the TT, turn down the lights, and enjoy the BEST of Blue Note jazz...It sounds as fresh and real as that January 8th day back in 1963...
