Edited 3 months agoThere's no way that this came out in 1963 with those markings. It was reissued in February 1964 and this one would definitely be 1964 (or possibly even later).

Edited 3 months agoI believe that the runout data listed above ( according to several data points, both on the 'net and between world-wide Beatles collectors) is incorrect. If this is truly variation 4, then the matrices should be 7XCE 17144-7 and 7XCE 17145-5.

Edited 10 years ago"Love Me Do" will always bring back fond memories to most Beatles' fans, but the music is uninteresting. In retrospect, it's amazing how weak 'Introducing the Beatles' (UK's 'Please Please Me') is as the first Beatles' album. Especially considering how powerful their 'Meet the Beatles' is. The Beatles were great from the get-go with 'I Saw Her Standing There', 'Please Please Me', 'Ask Me Why', 'There's a Place'. This single is backed by 'P.S. I Love You', which stands up well as a pretty, early Lennon-McCartney song.
Their reliance on covers for their first album is not surprising for a group's first album, but I find practically all of the covers on this first Beatles' album weak and dated. Not nearly as fun as the covers the Rolling Stones pull off on their first album release. The contrast of the Beatles' look on 'Introducing the Beatles' and the famous 'Meet the Beatles' shadow photograph is amazing. The Vee-Jay cover shows a very young and almost goofy looking Beatles. The Capitol cover is as artistic as the Beatles' music would become. And the music inside of 'Meet the Beatles', with the exception of Meredith Willson's 'Til There Was You', were all Lennon-McCartney originals.
I am certainly aware of the historical significance of 'Love Me Do'. I just don't play it anymore.
