I’m pretty sure this is the release I have, but the runouts are the same as those on variant 2 of this magenta pressing. Strange

Edited 6 months agoA classic album from the De La Soul collective.
It's a bit of a bummer that these current reissues removed and/or replaced half of the samples due to legal reasons - The 'Melted' version of Cool Breeze On The Rocks is prime example since there was a LOT of samples in there (Missed opportunity to leave out the 2 samples that made "I wanna ROCK with you" at the end).
I'm sure I can personally live with that, anyway - plus, my dad has the original copy so i ripped some of audio from it - the og vinyl is one of the quiet ones though.
R.I.P. Dave "Plug Two / Trugoy" Jolicoeur. -
Really solid pressing, no sibilance or pops. My only complaint is that the pressing is maybe on the flatter side dynamically but regardless, I am very happy to have this album in my collection!!!

Sounds nice and crisp. This brings you back in time of the days when this classic hip hop album was released. Nice front artwork too.

Edited one year agoVinyl front-end used for this review:
Rega P3:RB880 tonearm,Goldring 1006 mm,Delrin Platter, Rega Neo,Isoacoustic Orea bronze feet(x4)
Phono Stage:Whest Audio TWO.2 class a dual mono fully balanced phono stage, isoacoustics orea graphite feet(x3), 43db/47k ohms mm setting.
It was only last year that I asked someone with a discogs buying history to look for a OG 89" copy to replace the one l lost to someone else I "borrowed" it too(doh). Then by chance I saw this shortly after release in the u.k. and IMMEDIATELY purchased it,unfortunately this coincided with Dave`s ing - R.I.P. Trugoy!
De La Soul – 3 Feet High And Rising - AOI Records/Chrysalis 2023:
So like i mentioned earlier this record was purchased to replace my OG 89" copy some/most of you know the one - the one that`s FULL OF SIBILANCE...Aaaaargh For F**K SAKES. Look I`m fairly confident that now in 2023 if i had that same copy that it would sound a better as I KNOW HOW TO set up my turntable spot on CORRECTLY(a lot more important than owners/ actually realise) than back then when i was using my mum`s system(don`t laugh). But i would wager a bet that the OG still has that underlining sibilance that this copy DOES NOT.
This 2023 pressing is to my ears the way this fabulous LP should of been aiming for in sound quality back in the day, there`s no discernible sibilance on either disc, both of mine are glass flat, well centered, noise free & without distortion. The frequency range is on par for a rap record with deep lows clear mids so all lyrics are clearly audible & just the right amount of "ting" in the highs to make them shimmer with approval, nice.
When it comes to the 19 seconds short on "Cool Breeze On The Rocks" that some are moaning about(hahaha)this is RIDICULOUS. I`ll be honest I wouldn`t have even known if it wasn't mentioned so it`s a non issue i.m.o,yeah yeah I know others will disagree but get real people come on please let`s thank our prays that they HAVE re-release this classic again eh?
Conclusion:
Buy it - you WON`T Regret It,FIVE STARS Highly Recommended*****
Music:5.0
Mastering/pressing: 5.0 2x 180gm black vinyl
Inner sleeves: 3.5 printed white card
Cover: 3.0 below average original artwork(not a biggie for me though) -

Is it just me or does this pressing sound a little flat? I tried it on a couple of different turntable set ups.. and something just sounds off about it. I compared it to other pressings I have of this and it does not sound as good. Maybe it is just me.

Guys we must buy these records for 2 reasons
1. these guys have been f*** up by the music industry and now finally they got their rights
2. and now they got them back Trugoy ed away -
Had the ‘13 rerelease and foolishly hocked it at some point. Glad I have another chance to own it at a good price
-
They've done a pretty horrible job of reproducing the original sleeve. All the photography is really dark and a lot of detail lost compared to the original pressing from '89, and the typography has been redrawn. Shame. The vinyl sounds good though..
