Edited 2 months agoSwans was and is always one of my all times favorites artists...but this one is unfortunately and definitively their worst work.
I seen some people consider it as their favorite....so don't know...tastes and colors... As said a long time ago by them, "Swans are dead" ? Edit march 2025 : not the greatest, but finally not so bad. -
This may not be a popular opinion, but this is my favorite Swans album since 'My Father'. This is the first time in a while (way too long) that I've felt compelled to revisit a new album of theirs after the first listen. The other ones felt like a chore to me, which is weird because the Swans that existed in 80s/90s is my favorite band of all time.

I know no one cares about CDs lol, but has anyone ripped this yet on DBpoweramp? I tried two drives on two different computers and could not rip "The Bigger Lover (Three)" cleanly, so I sent it back (Amazon, not YGR) and got a new copy and the same thing happened. I don't know if this is DBpoweramp weirdness (maybe because the song is so long and it's not yet in their online database?), or some production issue affecting multiple CDs. Just curious if anyone has had the same problem.

Edited one year agoLOVE this album and the sound quality is excellent. No problems with either copy I got. I preordered one copy and ended up getting two packages sent. Future Xmas present for someone I guess. The one negative thing is once again the vinyl has a perfect track running sequence and the digital version has a terrible track order. Not sure why Swans albums have been like that lately but I always end up having to rearrange the tracks back into the vinyl sequence. -
This album is elevated from average to godly only because of 'The Beggar Lover (Three)'. Other than that, it's not very different from any other 'comeback' albums... sparse and monotonous musings about life and death. Not bad, not great either. But 'The Beggar Lover (Three)' is absolutely fantastic.
