Notes

1st pressing on yellow Epic labels. Authentic originals feature a black tab on the top-right of the jacket on the seam. Copies that lack this are counterfeits.

Some copies have "DEMONSTRATION NOT FOR SALE"
rubber stamped on the back sleeve.

Does anyone know if there was more then 1 pressing plant as all Lp's that I see have more then one pressing plant. Can't believe that all KAK Lp's were pressed at one plant???

I purchased a counterfeit copy of KAK circa 1984 and thought it was the original pressing.....until I found an original copy two years later in a store that had old stock remaining from the 1960s and 70s. There are several tell tale signs to spot the counterfeit cover. First, the original cover is constructed on thick white posterboard, where the counterfeit is printed on thin brown cardboard. On the front cover of the original copy, there is a black box in the upper right corner that is missing from the counterfeit. Also missing from the counterfeit cover is a slash that is between STEREO and BN 26429. Also, when you examine the picture frame border graphics on the front cover, you will see that the third layer has a very pale shade of purple on the original cover, where the counterfeit has a much darker shade of purple. The print on the spine of the original cover looks like that of other EPIC albums of the time but the printing style on the counterfeit does not. There is also a faded promo stamp on the back cover of the counterfeit as well. The record label on the counterfeit is a copy of the original, but it is a darker yellow, especially on Side One. Hope this helps.

There is no evidence this is a counterfeit. Dont forget The Left Banke 1st LP was also legitimately re-issued on Mercury - and what did Mercury do? Simply photocopy the original Smash Cover back and front. There are also people with receipts showing purchase from this LP from mainstream record shops in 1985. 2nd pressing it definitely is. Counterfeit it is not.

I believe the trail-off numbers in the description above are incorrect. I am looking at 2 copies, both apparent originals, one acquired maybe 35 years ago and the other more recently from a reliable source. The trail-off ##s on these two are as follows:

            Copy #1 Side 1 XSB 138476-1B
            Copy #1 Side 2 XSB 138477-1B

            Copy #2 Side 1 XSB 138476-1C
            Copy #2 Side 2 XSB 138477-1C

In both cases these numbers (which are one digit off from the ones listed in the release description) correspond to those printed on the yellow Epic label. I could not see any differences between the labels or the covers on the two copies. Therefore, I conclude that there are two different possible trail-off ##s.

Copies presented as original first pressings are housed in somewhat thinner non pasted unipack style sleeve made from one cardboard piece (for example, same as Elektra's Love Forever Changes US original covers were made). Strange because all other US Epic covers from the same time period were manufactured in a most common US way of LP cover manufacturing - of two pieces of thick cardboard, front sheet pasted first over edges, with back cover sheet pasted afterwards (Canadian original release of Kak album came out that way).
Still I would like to know the reason why Epic didn't manufacture US original Kak cover as they usually did with ALL their US original covers years before and after releasing the Kak album? Original Kak cover manufactured as it is brought confusion to collectors when recognizing what's an original first pressing and what's not.

Gary Yoder went on to play in Blue Cheer, among other groups.
This is certainly a very important LP to the evolution of the west coast
and more specifically the bay area psychedelic rock sound.
"Electric Sailor" is an excellent composition. Very laid back and acid tinged
vibes for sure. This was heavily booted in Europe in the late 80's, early 90's.

Is there in fact a reissue with the yellow label??? Or is it only the darker 80's label??

Phenomenal piece of vinyl in wonderful cover. If you have any interest in psychedelic music you should try this!
