Weird. Disc one sounds amazing. Disc two and side 3 it all goes weird. She Watch Channel Zero sounds like someone is constantly moving the volume dial up and down. So does Night of the Living Baseheads. The issue then starts to subside as it gets the end of side 4. I didnt notice this on disc 1 which is superbly well balanced. Without this problem this pressing would be the best this has ever sounded. Sadly im not going back to single disc 33 of this and will just live with the CD. Gutted.

Edited one year agoThe mastering on this sounds pretty good. Nice wide soundstage for a rap record, and as others have said just a touch quiet. I cranked it and just upped the bass +2, sounds good. Record was dirty and almost glued in the sleeve. Might give it a second wet clean… some minor surface noise still after the first, #standardGZthings
Much better than any reissue I’ve heard. Can’t comment on an OG but I’m not paying those prices. -
This lp should be amazing. I was psyched to see it was pressed on 2 albums. Yet, there’re is too much high end on it. I mean, come on!
The original single lp has more bass and punch. It’s weird it is cut at a low volume so I used my volume knob and addressed it, but it is still too bright for my liking.
So, use your eq.
Finally, some of the songs do sound very good. For example, Chuck’s vocals on Don’t Believe the Hype are really good. But… use your eq! -
Yo, I can dig ya'll having enthusiasm for this re-issue. You really should compare the original vinyl press. I did & this re-issue sounds HORRIBLE. The original 1988 pressing has BASS & bite. This version is lacking any edge. Considering it's on 2-L.P.'s now, the volume should be LOUD, but I had to crank my stereo to hear it. Additionally, the packaging is pixalated & wack. From my perspective, it's obvious Public Enemy could care less about this reissue, otherwise there would have been some quality control

Edited one year agoMy LPs are a hell of a static fest. Had to wrestle the vinyl out the sleeves and they were in the wrong sleeves ( Black in Silver Sleeve ? ) But it sounds amazing. Wide and dynamic soundstage. The work in all the samples pays off when it sounds this good. Wasnt expecting slam on the headphones from this but here we are. Just to add later on track D3 i had a loop bit. This probably just needs a wet clean
Update on mine. Now it had a wet clean it's fine. -
Flat noise-free pressing. Original LP spread over 2 true 180g records. Very clean and detailed but not bright mastering, hearing new things compared to streams. Clear and present centered vocals. Quieter cut so needs to be turned up to reach full dynamics but just great when you do and deep bass if your system can do it. Quality sleeve and printed inners but not poly lined. Terminator X shines as a genius here. Highly recommended.
