Original description from Factory Records:
"Initial run of 10.000 pressings. Packaged in a yellow waxed, marble interior card sleeve, constructed like a matchbook and sealed with a small red sticker."
There are actually 2 different pressings and 2 different covers = 3 different editions. This listing is for the 1st one:
- Matchbook like sleeve is textured with the "waxed" appearance as described (like 2nd edition), not slick and glossy (3rd edition).
- Printed inner sleeve has a purple touch, like 2nd edition (the 3rd edition is rather blue-ish).
- Record labels are flat (the 2nd and 3rd editions labels have an enhanced outer ring).
- Vinyl is heavier and thicker than the 2nd and 3rd editions but the pressing quality is inferior. Many copies have encapsulated particles in the vinyl which cause more or less audible clicks.
- Runout inscriptions are exactly the same for all pressings.
- Included a fold-out poster with images and text (Always Now lyrics and verses 10 to 12 from the "The Wheel of Analytic Meditation" by Mi-pham rNam-par rGyal-ba).
- Has a red seal like 2nd edition (3rd hasn't).
Overall: 1st edition = 2nd edition cover (inserts etc) with different "labels" and vinyl.

Edited 7 months agoI have an early press LP fact 45 with the same label on both sides.
Maybe second or third press with textured sleeve. -
I have a 3rd press sleeve (glossy) with blue marble insert & inside of the matchbook with a 1st press vinyl. What the heck. Lol. It’s like they ran out of textured sleeves and printed glossy ones for the remaining original vinyl records they had. -
Hi, one of my friends tell me, that they was the best friends, of Ian Curtis who sang several times with them, and that a member was after Debbie, the first to see Ian hanged.
Can anyone confirm or deny this thing? know the story of "Joy Division" and Ian Curtis quite well, but certainly what I have seen or read about them, many books, also in English, but I never knew of a close friendship with Ian. Bern and Hooky, they produced some singles, but in the time of New Order, if anyone can enlighten me on the relationship between them and the Joy Division glene I would be grateful -
I've never seen images of the poster insert... can someone please send or post images? I've owned this record for years and have always heard about this illusive insert but have never seen one!

If not entirely for music, this record is worth having for the cover art alone. Well, depends on the personal taste (or lack of it). A strict yellow typographic outfront with amazing colourful pallette inside, it's a work of genius.
The music itself leans heavily towards Joy Division but don't be fooled by such connotations. Section 25 are not perfect but they charmingly fit in with their shades of grey - sounding naively smart and innocent, confirming their debut's musical identity.
The sound is raw, typically Hannett-ish, the vocals at times fall out of tune but they still carry out the hermetical effect complementing the compositions - among the highlights is undoubtedly 'New Horizon'.
In all, it's an impressive atmospheric debut recommended for occasional, rewarding audio-visual experience.
