Edited 2 years agoShep jumps the shark here, or does he? He throws everything in but the kitchen sink into his “Deep Makeover Mix”—sh!t is bizzzy! Alternate baselines change on a dime, at least a few different percussive loops weave in and out, several synth solos take their turns (say that seven times) during the bridge......layer upon layer of strings, pianos, and samples (oh my!), and then there’s friggin’ Madonna...it’s a 9 minute extravaaagaaanzaaa! The emotional impact of Shep’s original album version gets a little lost here for sure, but he makes up for it by returning to the scene of the crime and giving us what we really want, a “Classic 12(inch)” extended version. I have to agree with my fellow reviewer “rlitter1981” down bellow, his preferences for “Shep’s Fierce Deeper Dub” & “David’s Classic 12(inch)” are right on the money...
...which brings my attention to Mr. Morales’ masterful handling of this instant “Club Classic”. Yes, David takes the title of this masterwork literally—he goes deepah and deepah, baby! And I’m glad he did honey, because he gets only one outing with Madonna, and he certainly made it count. The dubs are pure “Red Zone” magic, and that “Classic 12(inch)” is signature “Def Mix”, right from the gorgeous and moody opening piano solo, through to that mesmerizing dream-like deep bass ending—you get lost in the fantasy baby, Momo’s Fantasy that is! A serious reminder of how good “House Music” was back in da day! -
Great collection of mixes from Shep Pettibone and David Morales. This, rather surprisingly, is the only time David Morales has remixed a Madonna track which is surprising considering he remixed just about everybody in the early 1990s. The mixes cover uptempo house to more moody, deep house on some of the dubs. I personally prefer 'David's Classic 12" Mix' over the commercially released 'David's Club Mix', just prefer the ending in that mix. Out of Shep's mixes, I always go for the 'Shep's Fierce Deeper Dub' which really goes in a deep house direction. Overall, a great reminder of how good House music was in the early 90s. -

Perhaps Madonna's most under rated dance track- the production on this is great, though i prefer the 'deeper dub' mixes with less words. Madonna at the top her game- A+
