To follow up on the discussion of the junction forests inspirations: Here is an interview with Ekkel (junction forest ) and the guys from the ute label going into detail on their inspirations from 90s trance: https://www.minimalcollective.digital/editorial/ute-rec
That being said I think it's unfair from older gens to focus only what is familiar to them and call these releases imitations. Comparing it to the stuff I found while digging into 90s trance, I found the sound pushed by labels like ute and junction forest be much more minimal than 90s trance and focused on textures rather than melodies. -

When enough people realize that the only thing these "revivalist" records do is imitate the sounds of the greats from a long gone era, perhaps they will remain in the dollar bin where they belong. Until then, ravers will refuse to take off their nostalgia goggles, as they spend absurd amounts of money on an EP with just one nice song that will stand the test of time.

Edited 11 months agoif your really upset to miss this one like I did, then I recommend checking out these 1990's back catalogues such as Rising High, Platipus, bonsai, Zoom, Slip N Slide, Limbo etc.. Hope this helps the new gens 👍🏼

Selling at over $100 less than a month after release, LOL!!!
This stuff was a dime a dozen in the mid 90's, unremarkable.
Manufactured FOMO worked well on this one.
