A brilliant album. Utterly superb. Took about 5 minutes to get into it and absolutely loved it from the second playing onwards. Still love it years later and playing it as I write this.

Edited 7 years agoNot for the common man alas 80% of the world (if not 90%) move along in the same mainstream without asking why, that's why that type of music is heard on the TV/Radio all the time, this is not that style of music, this is real...Metallica always been real (if you don't count their pop trendy rock 90s). Might be harder for Reed fans to get into living in that music scene of alternative pop than Metallica fans who doesn't really ever need pop music fan's approval.
Both Metallica fans and Reed fans wondered what the fuqq they were doing...
...and the project was done anyway, that is not something bands signed on big labels usually do when the label decides, this is the artists deciding and ruling over their own lives, very refreshing...a mix between the worlds of the two artists. -
Long before this record came out I realized that I had so much respect for Lou Reed, yet he hadn't made anything I really wanted to listen to in years. Every single moment of the original Velvet Underground is a gem (the reunion CD not so much), and Lou's solo albums are occasionally OK, but don't stand up to repeat listens. This album is like that, an interesting idea that doesn't live up to the promise; it's not much different than any of Lou's solo albums from the last 20 years. Like Dylan, Lou's voice got worse and worse with age, to where it's uncomfortable to hear him sing-- perhaps Lou should have acted as lyricist only, and had someone else sing his words.

A record not suitable for stupids narrow jackass minds.
A piece of art, of difficult acces to cork brained jerks -
Edited 4 years agoReading all the reviews, spitting right in the face of a poor dismembered doll, it makes one wonder how bad "Lulu" might really sound. Well, for most part, it will be ed as one of the most boring experiment attempts between the two - at first hint - irreconcilable entities. Personally, I have divided feelings for both these entities. None of them neither irritate nor intrigue - they simply are there somewhere. And their results are just as mixed. It's funny how many already proclaimed "Lulu" "the worst" or "one of the worst" albums in history of mankind. Just because most press say so, it shouldn't scare you off opening "Loutallica's" Pandora's box and find out about it yourself. For some perversely strange reason, "Lulu" makes me laugh uncontrollably. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. And it provided Metallica with a beautifully morbid record sleeve... Thanks to Lou.

I own the double vinyl - and this is the best Musick! i have heard in years. You Punks dont know nothing. Read the book - feel the pain, maybe then you understand the Album.
Great Stuff - THNX LOU - and you people, be more open minded, think, listen, understand -
One day Lou Reed will reveal to the world (including Metallica) that this was the greatest prank he ever pulled on the music industry. No, not Metal Machine Music, that one at least was a statement. This is just an experiment to see how far you can go and convince people that if you call a turd "art" they will stop viewing it as a turd and try to 'get it'.
Damn you, Lou, you fooled us all.
