Re-visiting this pressing & must say this version is superior in every way to the 1981 Columbia reissue I have. $Money$ well spent. The '81 reissue sounds tinny & shallow compared to this. At least on my setup (a refurbished Pioneer SX1000TW/EPE Speaks & a modest Sony PS-LX3).

Edited one year agoNice sounding, nice extras, and heavy card package, but the cover images are printed too dark and too high contrast

I have 1976 UK reissue copy for years. Side one of that copy is pretty clean but side 2 unfortunately has some distracting noise. Recently I bought this 2011 copy (super mint, looks unplayed). I think it's "partially" digitally remastered (original tape -> DSD conversion -> lacquer cut, by same original people), similar to MoFi practice nowadays. Anyways upon ultrasound cleaning I did AB comparison, to my ear in my system my 1976 UK copy wins on side one with more bass weight, bigger sound and simply rocks harder. On side two this 2011 delivers better sounding: more vocal clarity and sax texture, equal sound stage as 1976 UK. New vinyl of the 2011 is dead quiet so it helps a lot. Now I have two copies to play on each best side.

Edited 2 years agoI seem to have got unlucky, got hold of a new sealed copy, full of pops and crackles 😔 Have cleaned twice but not helping much. Guess I’ll have to try again! When it’s not popping and crackling it sounds fantastic… disappointed.

Edited 2 years agoThis issue has all of the extras ..unlike the 2016 reissue which did not have the post cards etc. Also this version sounds smooth and analog. My version came with a post card. Poster. Mp3 and beautiful cardboard inner. My 2016 did not come with a poster or an mp3 card. I will say that I just did a 3 album shootout between an 80s columbia version this version and the 2016. The 80s version kicks this and the 2016 version. Although...this version came in a close second. Doug Sax managed to keep the instruments in the mix. IMO the 2016 version deletes most of the bass guitar into the bass drums and brings the mix to a modern "flat across the screen" sound. In other words there is no "depth perception" as is true of most new recordings. This version keeps much of the 3d feel of the 80s disc but still lacks the instrument separation..especially if you want to actually hear RW's bass lines...which I do..Also...all you have to do is go right to the sax solo on this version and the 2016 and it just doesnt feel "real" it truly is shocking. That being said. This version has a much more "analog" sound than the 2016. Which one do I like better...obviously the Columbia pressing...but it depends on what you like and if you care about hearing everything in the mix. Again this is a back to back listening session on the same gear. Oh.. and what I mean by all the goodies is the Poster and the MP3 card.

Seriously wicked-sounding LP, super-holographic & punchy, with dead-silent vinyl as well. Can't believe I got this at the drugstore for $19 ten years ago...

Outstanding reissue, clear, detailed and dynamic sound in a natural way, printing is also excellent. The vinyl itself may be heavier. I highly recommend this release anyway.

Edited 4 years agoI have never owned the original, so I have nothing to compare this release to. What I can say is that it sounds fantastic; dead-quiet pressing, great soundstage and sonics. As others have said here, the tight inner jacket is a pain in the arse, and will mark, though not damage the record. A truly great album that belongs in any record collection.
