Love some Steve Winwood. Grew up to mom playing his solo stuff (not Traffic.) Only just stumbled into this cut. Funny that Daft cat didn’t think it was worth the time. So Eric produced this banger!!!
People will bitch. I’d wager their “taste” isn’t too broad. Just “safe” and “basic.”

on the Prydz vs. Banglater/Falcon argument, recently a video explaining how this single came to be gives the whole backstory, including some vital parts of what has been knowledge in some circles for years.

Edited 9 years agoI bought this CD single from a charity shop just only two days ago. I have just finished listening to the CD today. Btw, I don't really like the official video for the song, but this is one of my most favourite dance songs ever! All the mixes of the CD are good, but the first two tracks; the radio edit and the Eric Prydz vs Retarded Funk Mix (which is the original extended version of the radio edit) are my personal favourites. My favourite out of the three remixes is the Filterheadz remix, because it retains some elements of the classic original, but with a Trancier sort of style. The JJ Stockholm Club Mix is slightly more laidback than the original version is, while the Red Kult Dub 2 Mix is a sort of bootleg mix of Eric Prydz - Call On Me with Blackbox - Everybody Everybody. Anybody who is a fan of classic House will love this CD!

Edited 20 years agoDespite unabashed repetition and a shameless music video, this track is still a catchy dance tune that’s a good warm up before the night moves on to bigger and harder beats. The original mix, credited to Prydz and Retarded Funk, is my highlight on this single because it has the best kick and that is what makes this track, especially with all the build up. The J.J. remix puts more emphasis on being uplifting as opposed to hammering the dance floor; a good listen. The Filterheadz remix sounds like a bootleg of their track Yimanya and Call On Me because it has the same bass and percussion. I’d rather just listen to Yimanya. The final mix on the disc is a darker house mix by Red Kult. It’s the least like the original, but is an interesting listen in comparison to the original mix in that it is just that different. The vocal cuts in this remix are the catchy part. Being a dance music junkie, I’m happy with this release.

Edited 20 years ago"Call On Me" was first produced by Thomas Bangalter & DJ Falcon on the Roulé label. It is not known how this project came into the hands of Eric Prydz. There are many speculations at the moment.
When Steve Winwood heard the bootleg of this track, he thought it was so good, he not only gave the permission to use the samples of his track "Valerie", but he also re-recorded some of his vocals.
I personally like the track, even if very repetitive. However, I think the video is nothing else than a sexual ride to sell the record. The avalanche of clichés is sad. I think dance music should be over that.
