Recently found a used copy of this album, UK pressing. Much clearer sound and wide soundstage, absent in the American LP pressing. Took 34 years, but I finally found an enjoyable copy of the album.

i am not a p.i.l fan in general, there are only two albums i know well, because i heard them a lot in the 80s, specially the paris in spring live recording, which i like a lot.
the other one was happy?.
when happy? came out, a family member gave me a cassette with it, the other side was music by stravinsky, a weird combination for sure.
i think happy? was made to got commercial success, i.e. to make money and fame like let's dance by bowie.
this is miles away from paris in spring, a clean produced album for a much wider crowd of listeners.
so, from a artistic standpoint it is not a revelation...
but although i did not hear it for decades, some of the tracks like body came to my mind on a regular basis, which is not the worst to say about music.
so i got a cheap cd version, it is from 1987 and sounds like one would expect...flat.
i can , when i first heard a cd, it was a zappa album, and i was disappointed and could not understand the hype soundwise.
sure, it was better suited for heavy drunken partys, which destroyed some vinyls;-)
i have not listen to it for decades, but it is much like i it.
the music is catchy, energetic, danceable and kind of partymusic.
one some tracks there a female backsingers, which give a little soul feeling.
i am happy to got it, i was not sure, if i would like it again after so many years, but i do.
