Edited 4 years agoOne of the albums that changed my life, musically speaking. It opened a new whole world when I started to try to find who were the musicians, where the samples came from, etc. I was 17 at the time, in a pre-internet world, where all my friends were listening to hard rock/pop/heavy metal. It was my friend Carlos that gave me a home-recorded tape with some songs from the album, and I was amazed by its sound. While everything is easier to obtain nowadays, I miss those times!

Jazzmatazz at Slim's in SF is one of my all-time favorite shows. The album dropped that week the show started at midnight and both Roy Ayers and Donald Byrd were there. I can the performance like it was yesterday the rest of the night is a blur shoutout to eddy

Classic album. This highly intellectual album is such a gem... that´s why Guru´s always been my favorite rapper EVER. Respect to all the great artists involved... a must have for ever MUSIC lover..

Nice album! This is the first hip hop album, to my mind, which features live guest appearences of legendary Jazz-Funk or Soul-Jazz musicians like Donald Byrd, Roy Ayers and Lonnie Liston Smith. The idea or concept of the album was back then (i.e. in the early nineties) considered as a progression over just sampling jazz. Some really nice tunes on it. Check "Lougin'", "Down the Backstreets", "Le Bien, le Mal" and "Trust me".
