An absolute masterpiece and a prog classic! ELP really outdid themselves with this album especially with Keith's delightful Moog synths. Love the die-cut jacket and the beautiful artwork created by the talented H.R. Giger. The mastering on this particular release is pretty decent (if a little bit on the quiet side) though it always bothered me that Karn Evil 9's 1st Impression was split onto both sides of the record. Great album nonetheless, one that everyone should listen to at least once.

What happened to Discogs? There are no comments or reviews about the quality of this pressing, the sound, or any inherent virtues of this version. Is it necessary to review the kind of artists they are, or whether we like this or which E, L&P album more? That's what Allmusic is for, friends.
After reading all the comments, I didn't see anything regarding the SOUND and/or pressing quality of this edition. Still, thank you for your input

I often waffle on declaring this the bands crowning achievement or an outright turgid and meandering mess. I think what always wins me over is the cold production and the technical expertise on display here but this is certainly a release that you have to be in a mood for. Love Toccata, like being in a submarine during a catastrophic hull breach.

I do love it, but, really, how the hell did ELP actually sell records with some of this stuff on it? Would never get the green light from a major label today.
