Edited one month agoI had to pick up this 1st Volume, the selection was just too dope!
Purpose - sampling and listening.
The vinyl press seems excellent, low noise, decent bass. Better than your average bootleg compilation breaks / samples record.
Basically what this is, is a slightly eclectic comp of breaks and samples suitable for more UK breakbeat styles of music, so no Amen, Think, Apache, but it's not to far off the beaten path, it is tried and tested material. There's a few hard to find records in here and just some really dope stuff in general on this volume.
This is in my honest opinion a breaks / samples classic.
Not sure if I'll cop the others. A few tracks on their Westbound library are tempting. The hip hop one actually has lots of jungle breaks on it but they are so stereotypical I already have them over and over, it's a bit of a cheesy selection for my use case but cool as a sonic history of hip hop breaks (imagine a cheesy most popular breaks compilation missing Think, Funky Drummer and Amen... As a Junglist, respectfully no thanks).
If I do pick up another in this series, I'll buy with confidence. The track list on this 1st volume (as you are probably aware, why else would you be here?) was / is just too dam good to up though.
Super Breaks Vol 1 (Essential Funk, Soul And Jazz Samples And Break Beats) gets a solid 4.8/5 -
Edited one year agoinsanely good Giles Peterson compilation from 1999! essential breaks/ jazz / funk samples.
