This MOV sounds fantastic. Honestly this one of the best sounding albums in my 500+ collection. Super quiet background and very dynamic. All the instruments are well represented and placed. I don’t find it squashed at all in loud ages. This blows away my later reissue which was terrible.
-
Agreed with everyone else here. The quieter moments - of which there are many - really shine. But the loud stuff is squashed to heck. However it’s a sacrifice I’m ok with considering the heft of this record and the digital nature of things.
Super quiet and heavy. It’ll do. -
Edited one month agoI owned the 2012 RSD release twice - first time I thought I had a dud as it sounded quite bad so bought another copy. Both the copies sounded the same - bloated bass and unimpressive soundstage.
Now that I own this MOV release, I am much happier. I really do not understand how the differences are marginal (as per some other reviews) since to me this MOV, while still sounds compressed esp in the loud parts, is a much better listening experience.
The soundstage is wider, separation is better and the bass is well grounded. I still feel like there is a “blanket” on my speakers but this is the best version of the album.
I also compared the 2012 RSD with hi-res streaming and the streaming crushed it. This MOV sounds better than what’s on Qobuz.
I have very few good sounding records from this loudness war peak era but this is definitely one of the decent ones.
Also the RSD release of SCIENCE sounds better than this if it helps anyone in of point of reference. -
This is not pressed at Record Industry as they usually do because both copies I bought were severely dish warped and has pressing defects. When MOV used RI, there is never any issues.

Edited one year agoJust grabbed a copy of this pressing. To echo previous statements, I've been quite pleased in some instances, not so much in others. Voice is more forward and bass is precise and audible, much more so than on previous mixes. Tracks like Are You In? and Aqueous Transmission sound buttery smooth, but lack dynamics. Sound becomes harsh during the record's busiest and heaviest moments with cymbals straining to get out of the mix and being a bit too bright, whereas guitars sound muddy and a bit overblown. Just A Phase's ending, as mentioned earlier, had me turning the volume down.
Mixed bag overall, but some enlightening moments, and for those alone I don't regret my purchase. Here's to hoping Morning View XXIII somehow fixes most of these issues.
EDIT: Forgot to add that all 4 sides of my copy were dead silent out of the sleeves, a nice surprise. -
sounds great on some tracks, ok on the others. just a phase sounds especially crunchy. not too bad tho, great pressing
-
I think overall this doesn’t sound bad, but it isn’t dynamic as others have pointed out. In fact, it sounds quite crunched! I had to turn it down in fact…
-
This is a great pressing. Very dynamic. Of course it's a digital source, but MOV mastered it great for vinyl with what they had. Vinyl is dead quiet as well
-
Great pressing of an incredible album. Genuinely one of the greatest albums I've ever heard and so happy to own this on vinyl. "Are You In?" is one of my favorite songs of all time.
