Edited 4 years agoThis is one of those cases where I had NO idea remixes of this song existed until a few years ago, when I stumbled upon this at a used record store! Some very rare remixes here which only appear on this 12" and on this promo CD.
So how are the mixes? Well the Dance To The Music Mix is actually quite impressive...it has the familiar string arrangement intro, but then kicks into this pseudo-breakbeat-house rhythm track that features a wicked bass drum. The bass line is also modified slightly, and the familiar chorus guitar hook has been moved to the background, with strings playing the same notes over top of it...acting as the 'feature' instrument instead of the guitar. Thankfully all the vocals were kept intact, along with some additional vocal stabs over some of the breaks. It's also worth noting that unlike the original version, the string arrangement from the intro isn't replayed after the second chorus refrain (instead it's a drum break, and...true to the name of the mix...a little bit of bass line sampling from Sly & The Family Stone's 'Dance To The Music').
Overall, a solid remix that doesn't have a lot of flash and doesn't try too hard to mess with the original. Which makes sense considering Scott Litt, who also produced the original, did this remix as well.
The 'Pop" mix is an edit of the Dance To The Music mix, but with less breaks and without the DTTM sample. And the 'Hip' mix just contains bits and chunks of the Dance To The Music mix and not much else...
