Edited 10 months agoMain biography page has some egregious errors:
1. Peel Session was recorded in June 1994.
2. Rodan's last shows were in September that same year...
3. With Kevin Coultas on drums; Jon Cook did not re the group as alleged (see also "Broken Heart of a Neutron Star" aka "Noble Attitude" on Crain's "Heater" album, also released in 1994).
"Rusty" is an album that's difficult to listen to, but not because it isn't great. It is. Hard to believe that it came out 30 years ago. Harder still to contemplate those who are no longer with us. -
Can’t speak on any of the reissues, but this original kicks ass like you want this album to. Bob Weston’s production shines here.

Such a great band, my original copy sounds perfect.
f you like Slint or Shellac it’s a must have.
Grab one when it’s still affordable ;) -
The only difference in the matrix/runout of my copy is that the S's are the right way round, not reversed like here.

A used copy I found this weekend came with a brown, 11 x 22 inch poster that just folds in half. Not printed on both sides like the massive one depicted here.

WHAT THE BAND didn't realize was the amount of effort their project would drain from every member. Years in the making, when it was finally packaged and introduced it was over. Gobs of fetching dynamics and electronic flux arresting silent resting places amongst the cold and calculated complex musical shifts, atomic rhythms and whisper-to-a-shout lyrics by Jeff Mueller; RODAN were a band for the future if only they had sustained continuity. For the most part this Louisville band can be viewed as indulgent in their execution and style with brief moments of pure melody and conventional rhythm. The only song that betrays that conviction is "Bible Silver Corner" which opens the album with the delightful instrumental - showcasing Kevin Coultas plucking the guitar. RODAN were by no means a representation of what Rachel's - two outstanding bands playing very different music.

Edited 19 years agoA classic album for any math-rock freaks out there. Perhaps the best album Jeff Mueller, Jay Noble, and TJO ever released, including all their many other amazing projects: June of 44, Rachel's, Shipping News, Sonora Pine, Tara solo and more. This one started it all. Up their with Spiderland as one of Louisville's finest rock releases of all time.
