Origin Unknown Mix ages like a fine wine. Really has to be a standout track in this style of Jungle, absolutely world class arrangement which I think separates it from the rest..

Being involved with a illegal pirate radio station in the West Midlands back in '94. I got given a demo tape with two tunes on it. To play on air. This was to promote Asend & Ultravibe's next release on the Back 2 Basics Recordings label. The follow up to the What Kind Of World / The Promise 12 inch.

Written on the demo tape it says Asend & Ultravibe - What's The Time Dred and The Promise (Asend & Ultravibe Remix) June 1994.

So Dead Bass was originally called What's The Time Dred by the artists.

I told everyone about these two new killer tunes at the time. I kept on playing both of them. Especially What's The Time Dred. But no one listened to me. Probably because i was younger. Some where down the line. The people at Moving Shadow heard it and ultimately they signed it for release no 50. With a name change to Dead Dred - Dred Bass.

I don't quite now what happened to The Promise (Asend & Ultravibe Remix) on the demo tape. It has never ever been released. Never heard any other djs play it or ever been talked about. It's better than the original version and way better than the Ultravibe Remix that came out on Back 2 Basics Recordings No 10R. One of them mysteries. The artists couldn't of though it was any good. Or maybe they lost the DAT.

Anyway, the people behind the original brought back the What The Time Dred name back for the 1996 version on Second Movement Recordings. Good tune. But its all about the original.

One of the greatest tunes in jungle history. In a way it was a good job that the original landed on Moving Shadow. Their records were mass produced and distributed by SRD. I used to go in a lot of independent record shops within the West Midlands / South West. They all had it in the windows.

Absolutely the BIGGEST tune when this first came out. I it like it was yesterday and its easy to do that () as there was nothing really like it at the time with that reverse bass line. I live in the States, in the South to be exact and there weren't very many people playing Jungle/DnB in my area and since it was also pre-internet I didn't hear this record until the day it was released. My local store usually got in one copy of a record and so I picked it up for $8.99 (Score!)! This was a time when you bought records based on the label, you didn't have to listen to a Moving Shadow record before you bought it, you just picked it up as you knew it was going to be quality and this release obviously didn't disappoint.

As Shaneski mentioned this tune used to cause all sorts of damage. ing hearing Zinc stepping up with the Origin Unkown mix at Desire @ the Roller. That bassline on the original set the pace for others to follow and arguably was responsible for about 50% of UKG which followed a couple of years later. Truly groundbreaking, I hope todays generation can experience the kind of buzz and excitement that this tune created, but I very much doubt it!!! This one tune sums up what it was all about BITD!

absolute tune to this day mate ! - bit of a game changer really - the original mum doing the hoovering upstairs lick ! - i went to desire at roller express in summer 94 and Hype kicked off his set with it .....the place went absolutely fucking bananas ! - respect some gold memories on this - bless
