Picked up a copy of this from a record fair that is not gatefold, though I'm assuming it was released either in the US or Canada given where I found it. I can't find the version listed on Discogs. Anyone got any thoughts on what it might be or have I stumbled on a version that has yet to be catalogued here?

Edited one year agoExit "The Jackson 5", enter "The Jacksons"!!!!
Getting the "Jackson 5" stuff out of the way, now it is time to get down to the nitty gritty!!!! After leaving "Motown" and dealing with the name change (which was good, because they were older), the Brothers signed to "Epic Records" and it would be very fruitful between label and artist...This is also when "Jermaine" decided to stay with "Motown"....So with that being said, younger brother "Randy" stepped in....No, he couldn't replace "Jermaine", but it did enhance the group musically going into the future....
With this album and the second one, the Brothers got to work with legendary "Philly Soul Sound" producers, "Kenny Gamble" and "Leon Huff", and it did not disappoint,,,,
It starts off jummpin' with the Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel Classic, "Enjoy Yourself"....With It's infectious Guitar Riff and Punchy Horns, it is perfect for the dance floor....
"Keep On Dancing" follows in the same vain, only a little faster....
"Blues Away", the 2nd Crown Jewel written by "Michael", is a swinging type jam, tailor made for him Vocally....
The 3rd and 4th Crown Jewels of, "Good Times" and "Show You The Way To Go" are just classic "Philly Soul", through and through...
I feel like getting with "Gamble & Huff" was vital for the group, even though the collaboration didn't last long....That's ok though, because soon the Brothers were going to go to another level....But it started here.... -
A great album from The Jacksons. This is the only Jackson’s album I have as I love the Philly sound and this does not disappoint, with the Gamble/ Huff Dexter wansel production and that MFSB sound and superb vocal harmonies from the Jackson’s 👌

The Jackson brothers 'showed us the way to go' with the release of their eponymous 1976 Epic Records debut. The album saw them pairing with a collective of the defining luminaries of Philadelphia Soul, Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff, McFadden & Whitehead, and Dexter Wansel, marrying a lush fusion of Philly soul, a joyous amalgamation of funk, disco, and pop, to the group's ever-maturing sound. An underrated, yet vital chapter in the Jackson legacy and Philly soul tradition.
