OK, thought I was the only one when I put this on. I agree, sounds muddy, crappy, etc. I thought my stylus was bad and that was not the case. Agreed that it sounds like I have blown speakers. Probably CD/digital press to vinyl just to get it out to everyone. I haven't decided to keep it or not.

unfortunately, another victim of loudness war... pressing is ok, music is great but so compressed. at times almost unlistenable

Seeing a lot of people loving the quality here, but it sounds a bit muffled. Almost when they mixed the album they let the vocals max out and it has a distorted effect.

Edited 7 years agoBought this fantastic record via Amazon . Could anyone tell me the difference between the US and Europe release of this LP? According to the information for the runout, I bought the US version. But as I bought it in I‘m wondering why I didn‘t geht the european version.

Though using the tools, hooks, and formulas taken from the likes of Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke, Leon Bridges sounds in no way like he’s stepping out of the mid 60’s. It’s just that without feeling calculated, he’s updated the infectious danceable jukebox beat that inspired so many of us, so many years ago ... and he does it all without the fear of embarrassment, without embellishment, staying true to a genre that was laid down those many years ago, yet allowing his music to sound fresh for today’s ears, and right in fashion for today’s listeners, with songs that are solid and emotionally true.
Leon Bridges has mastered the art of story telling, laying those stories within infectious grooves, and doesn’t mind dancing to them, stepping with one hip toward the audience and finger popping in a beat meets jive manner that will hold your attention from the first note to the very last. Bridges has mastered the entire package, and the album is certainly more effective due to his use of vintage guitars and equipment, aided by lazy offhanded drums and a dynamic, though limited, horn arrangement, creating an R&B sound that strains with anticipation ... inspiring me to send him a note, asking him to please cover “Take Me To The River,” on his next album.
