A vinyl that was given to me, ok the quality is a simple vinyl re-upgrade of the analog, but it doesn't cost anything -

Edited one year agoThe album is great, but the pressing is a mess. From original analogue tapes? No dynamics, compressed, useless crap, clicks and pops very often. The inner sleeve is a simple paper without antistatic foil, which makes some paper scuffs on the vinyl. Overall, my 1979 french re-press sounds much much better... -
Edited 3 years agoFor such an influential an important record, I would have maybe wanted a bit more than a straight reprint of the original (very minimalistic) package. It doesn't have a gatefold, or even a printed inner sleeve. Pressing is fine for what it is though. I know this is an audiophile record, and I can see why this release might not be the best for them, but folks who are more casual about mastering should be a-okay. My star score reflects the music itself, which is still awesome. I'd give the pressing itself a 3/5. -
Edited 4 years agoThis is NOT "mastered from the original analogue tapes". It's a badly compressed digital master with a cut at 20khz and some up-sample aliasing above. -
Nothing against the re-mastering, but my record came extremely dirty (got it new and sealed) even with some audible scratches. as for the music 4.5/5 IMO great album.
