Edited one year agoThis album by the mighty PE always left and still leaves me with the feeling that it could have been a bit more condensed, running quite long time and not every minute feels equally powerful & dense. I think it all just had to come out and to be said, Chuck D is a major spitter and the chemistry with Flav is just per-fec-tion, so they took their space and time. However, WHENEVER they roll in, my goodness, it's still a steamroll! With "Brothers Gonna Work It Out", "911 Is A Joke", "Welcome To The Terrordome", "Burn Hollywood Burn", "Fear Of A Black Planet", "Who Stole The Soul?" and of course "Fight The Power" it delivers a whole bunch of explosive classics, but the b-side overall drags a bit, to be honest, and here and there I would have liked it to be a little crisper. I find the predecessor from 1988 to be more convincing, I know these albums are rather hard to compare on some level, but which comes almost ridiculously tight and compact, like a "best of" or something. This is of course complaining at a super high level and the first 3 PE albums are their finest. So still full marks for this milestone.

Found at a local thrift store in really good condition with original cover is one of my better finds and can confirm how amazing this copy sounds (played through higher end audio equipment). It is in my (this shit plays awesome crate!!) 👍👍

This is over an hour crammed into one LP. Haven’t heard this pressing, but I can’t imagine it sounds very good.

Edited 5 years ago30 years anniversary on this exact date. The first 2 PE albums revolutionized the distinctive and noisy identity of Public Enemy's sonic brilliance but 'Fear Of A Black Planet' came over as a completely coherent and conceptualized album. Bomb Squad's production is out of this World and listening to this masterpiece is like reading your favorite book. You simply get drawn into the perfect narrative that the entire team surrounding Public Enemy laid out on this album. Fight The Power!

Edited 8 years agoWow -- this original pressing is mindblowing. The CD or digital files of this classic just don't do justice to the massive sound of the Bomb Squad here -- what once was almost tinny and small is here otherworldly and immersive. I've always thought this was their greatest album but listening to it in this form only made me appreciate it even more. Grab it if you can.
