Agreeing with funkmasterfuma's post further down .
Side A sounds overall rather flat and the bass is boomy. C/D are much better and even B is less boomy.
However i dont have any surface noise, crackling or pops, very clean sounding. If it was just for C/D it would be 4.5/5, with A being noticably worse i'd sum it up to a 4/5
Note: All of this is after a thorough clean.

Quite a bit of surface noise. Audible even over loud sections. Wet clean helped slightly but not much.
Low end is lacking. Non-fill on B side. Quiet overall, have to crank my amp to get it going. -
Just picked up a copy of this last week. Sounds great after a good wet cleaning before playing the first time. No issues to report.

I'm not sure if this was repressed, but I just grabbed a copy and honestly I think it sounds great. I mean it's a relatively lo-fi album in general but my copy is absolutely clean AF and has pretty nice dynamics. And I'm playing on an Ortofon 2M Black so if there were issues I'd know because these carts are absolute bastards.

While I agree w/ Doomguy that there's a couple isolated instances of sibilance and a bit of noise between tracks (none that I detected in-track), to me the good far, far outweighs the bad here. It's an excellent press. Compared to a flac rip of my CD, which I'd just listened to the other night, this is more engaging. Now I listened to it on headphones whereas I listened to the digital on my speakers/ sub, so take these comparisons with a grain of salt - but I was hearing little nuances of things I'd never before heard in the recording. Del's raps too - I think the midrange is just better, more detailed, more alive than the CD. Also the beats slap even harder on vinyl, somehow. I was sitting in my chair straight up spasming to the beat at times. Didn't do any kind of rigorous A/B testing or anything, but those were my impressions. Bottom line, this press of this album is just a hugely enjoyable listen. If anyone cares the equipment used was a flaunce Rt-85 TT w/ a nagaoka MP-110 cart, jds labs Atom headamp, Sennheiser 6xx 'phones.
Now the bass doesn't go down to the absolute bottom of the basement like the digital does, for example that extra sub-bass throb in "Things you can do" is barely audible if at all. However, the bass that's there is very authoritative & satisfying and as I mentioned the beats are very propulsive and neck-snapping. 2 thick, mostly flat discs. Packaging is quite basic but this release is quality where it truly matters. I had an awesome time listening to the whole thing last night. At the price you can get it at, it's a no brainer. Grab a copy! -
Edited 5 years agoNot great. It's sibilant in places (mostly on side A with some on side D, too) and is also moderately noisy even after a deep clean. At least it wasn't expensive, I guess you get what you pay for. Probably going to replace this with the CD.
