No skips for me but it does indeed sound very poor. My copy has been reserved to the shelf for years now as a result.

Bought this years ago and when i got home to play it, I thought I bought a bootleg it sounded so bad. Was really bummed out as it is such a classic album. I need to find a better pressing of this :(

Edited one year agoQuiet and pretty flat sound on this release. It’s a great album but the master pales in comparison to the copy of Low End Theory that I’ve got (USA 1996 black+white labels – amazing sound).
Crank your volume and bass EQ! -
Edited one year agoThis pressing suffers from very poor quality control. Side A had an actual gash in the wax that obviously caused skipping and pops. Surface noise was constant. It’s not your setup. This album deserves to be released with more care and reverence. I’m planning on returning it for another copy but I don’t have high hopes for that endeavor yielding any better results. EDIT Still not great after getting a replacement BUT there’s no glaring defect on this copy. My setup does lack some low end power, to be fair.

Very quiet pressing unfortunately. Had to turn my volume up much higher than with other records and even then it’s not a great mix

mine sounds pretty great. those complaining about surface noise might not realize that much of what they’re hearing is from the source material- not due to the pressing.
not the best packaging wise, but for a cheap and inexpensive package it’s not bad at all

Very disappointed with this pressing. I buying this at a Florida record store while on vacation and when I got home the muffled and low quality of the pressing left me feeling a little ripped off. As much as I adore this album, you're probably better off getting an older pressing. As much as those can possible go for, I'm sure it's worth it.

Edited 3 years agoAwesome album, but pretty bad pressing. Very quiet, not dynamic, and surface noise throughout. Not the absolute worst, but it basically sounds like a bootleg to me. A must have if you collect classic hip-hop but look for other pressings.

Classic album with some of the best hip hop songs ever! The pressing is pretty quiet and not bass heavy, there is also some prominent pops throughout about two songs (I bought this used). Great album to have 👌
