Edited one year agoAlbum Revolution #1:
For the last 4 years, "The Commodores" have paid some very serious dues....But at the same time, with 3 albums under their belts, the group was starting to get noticed (especially with the Songwriting of one "Lionel Richie")....
Now it was really time to take things to the next level, and "Hot On The Tracks", helped them do just THAT!!!!! This Ultimate Crown Jewel of an album was the groups first COMPLETE album!!!! From start to finish, there was just no flaws (at least not to me)....
Still hanging with their BROTHER "James Anthony Carmichael", the album starts off on the FUNKY "Let's Get Started"...A total group Written effort, you can tell that the group was putting the World on notice!!!!!
"Girl, I Think The World About You" (Written by "Lionel Richie" and "Thomas McClary") soothes things out just a little, but it still has a FUNKY Backdrop to it....
"High On Sunshine", is one of my favorite "Commodores" ts EVER!!!!! Also Written by "Lionel Richie" and "Thomas McClary", this t kind of shows which direction the Band was going....It still has a FUNK Backdrop, but you can tell that the group was starting to smooth out their Grooves more....
I seemed to notice that "Thomas McClary" was to "Lionel", like "Chris Jasper" was to "Ronald Isley" of "The Isley Brothers"...."Thomas" must have really LOVED how "Lionel" delivered his Vocals, and trusted his Compositions to it.....
Well, that leads to that one "Lionel Richie" t of the album in "Just To Be Close To You"....
OMG!!!!! THIS T IS THE BOMB!!!!!!
Again, the Songwriting of "Lionel" was not just getter BETTER, now it was THERE!!!!! On top of that, his Creativity was also on display...How? Well, the beginning FUNKY COUNTRY RAP by "Lionel" at the beginning is just WOW!!!!! The song also benefited from "Lionel" and "Walter Orange" interplay Vocals (which sounds FANTASTIC!!!!!).....This also was the song that helped the group reach Platinum status!!!!
The second side was just a FUNKY Affair....
"Fancy Dancer", again has "Lionel" at his FUNKY Vocal best.....
That also went for "Come Inside" (even though I like the Live version they released 2 years later better)....
"Thumpin' Music", written by "William King", was also a GRAND slice of FUNK....I'm not sure who lead this one, maybe it was "King" himself, I just know it wasn't "Lionel" or "Walter" (Sounds GREAT though)....
"Quick Draw" (Written by Milan "Williams") was the UNSUNG of the album...It has "Walter" on a "CB Radio", sounding out to all FUNKSTERS....Priceless!!!!!
The last t in "Can't Let You Tease Me", has "Walter" warning his Lady not to play games....This was also an UNSUNG t!!!!!
Well, it was happening....
The World was starting to LOVE "The Commodores"....They were no longer on the outside looking in!!!!! That meant the pressure to get better would be there, which would start a push and pull situation for the group (I will explain that later)....
In the mean time, this album was the groups pathway to SUPERSTARDOM!!!!!!! -
Track listings are wrong on pressing label and cover. (Come Inside is track 1, side 2, Fancy Dancer is track 2, side 2 .)
